Well with all the positive response, here is a fact list of our whole production:
Interesting Facts About Black Hawk Down - SOCOM Style
- Pre-Production Planning Began in the first week of April, 2006
- Sidd wrote a rough script in early April and Sidd and Zodia worked on the script over the course of a few weeks
- The original script called for two helicopters to be shot down, instead of one.
- To compensate for the lack of helicopters in SOCOM 3, Sidd and Zodia floated the idea of using footage from the game
Delta Force Black Hawk Down to show the helicopter getting shot down. Zodia drafted a short clip, but the idea
was later scrapped
- The original script called for all participating clan members to lend their voices to the movie, but problems soon
persisted when a number of people didn't have access to microphones.
- Sidd wrote up a number of lines for #SA# members to speak, but they were never used
- The original script called for the movie to be shot in Killing Fields, but Devil's Road was later decided due
to better weather and a suitable area for the crash site in the movie.
- Sidd initially envisioned the video to last 4 minutes (we know how wrong he was!)
- Sidd and Zodia first thought in pre-production planning that the film should be under 20 MB
- Filming didn't begin till mid-April
- Filming finished in mid-July
- Sidd didn't participate in the first two scenes of the movie
- Zodia was the only character to take part in all the scenes
- Editing took over a week and a half
- All voice overs and music seen in the video are from the film Black Hawk Down
- To avoid problems while filming, the camera man (Zodia) was the only one wearing a ghille suit so no one
would fire on the camera man
- On several occasions the camera man was killed by in-direct fire, while wearing the ghille suit.
Everyone had a good laugh.
- Several scenes were deleted or cancelled due to the difficulty of implementing AI hostages in the scenes.
- The original trailer didn't show any footage of the video and relied on audio to tell the story
- The Production involved a total of three clans, but #SA# (Sonic Assassins) did most of the scenes
- The final scene of the movie called for almost 32 people in the scene, but a lack of people caused the scene
to involve about a dozen or so people
- The ending of the movie originally involved the soldiers just running out of the city and no scene involving
two soldiers talking at the end
- A number of scenes were re-worked and pulled from the final version of the movie due to time constraints
and problems inserting the audio
- The ending of the movie was re-worked at the last second to include an emotional letter written by one of the
fallen soldiers from the battle.
- Over 50 man hours were spent in just editing the whole film
- Sidd and Zodia are planning a three-disc deluxe edition with behind the scene footage, interviews, commentary and
a director's cut that is digitally mastered
