I've been an owner of 3 PS2's so far, and 2 have died on me. The first two were fatties, and the one I have now is a slim. The slim PS2 has been under my ownership for atleast 4 months now. My old PS2s died atleast a year into their life, and which has created a horrible Socom playing experience. My slim PS2 is more reliable, is quieter, and doesn't 'rattle' for any reason during gameplay.
Word of advice: if you have $200 dollars to spend on a new PS2, I highly reccomend purchasing a slim PS2. The fatties are just pieces of junk (and if you're a fattie owner...watch out because sooner or later it's going to die on you).
Now if you say "But the Slims overheat" ...no they don't. If you take care of them properly and don't treat them like a slave, then it will not freeze, I guarentee it.
The way I keep it from overheating is this:
Your slim PS2 is hooked up by an 8.5v power source going from the back of the PS2 to the output. You've noticed that there is no 'power switch' in the back, so when you turn it off you see a red light. Most of you just keep the light on. Well that causes power duration for the cord going to the output. Do what I do and just unplug the round cord from the back of the PS2, and when you want to play again, just plug it back in.
Slim PS2s are very reliable.
