You'll just have to try them all. That's what I did. For the single player games, just use the default ones, the first time thru. Then you can decide on what you like better, as you go up in rank. Same goes for on-line.
yeah go to respawns and try out the guns. the F90 is a good gun now, and the M16A2 shoots more like an auto now. The m14 is a lot different. And you can actually point your crosshairs and it actually hit the guy not like S2, so yeah try out some guns at a respawn get used to the maps. They verify your account.
if ur first starting to play why dont u try out the f90, fu-ck what pepo say about its a good gun, easy head shot and very fast. also i used the m14 when i first started very easy and powerful. or u can beat the game and get ur self the i dub or the stg also very nice guns.
I say, start off with a weapon that requires a little more skill (M-16/M-14), and work your way up from there. The biggest thing to worry about is getting your aim good, and also getting your reflexes sharp. It might benefit you to practice on alot of sniper maps.

first beat the game on commander and try out all the different set ups. than at least beat captin ta get the front grip and med scope. if u wanna, beat admiral and get the stg and iw 80. the IW sux and the stg is the best gun in the game

First thing you do is hop online and jump in a respawn. Try all guns on both sides as well as all the attachments. Once you start to get the hang of the game and get into ranked rooms, I would just go beat the game on commander, captain, and admiral to unlock everything. Then after that you just have to play to get used to everything and the maps and all.
