Controller Settings...

Looks spead, acceleration, and dead zone. One of the features that makes socom great is that these are adjustable. With so many posts on what gun to use, what skin, etc. I am suprised not many people seem to question your controller settings, as I assure you that proper setting will help more than any minute differences in weaponry. As such, I was wondering if we could possibly establish some general guidelines for noobies who want to know what settings to use other than default. Maybe post what you use, what you do (rushing, sniping, etc) and how it works. Just to give a general idea, as controller setups are so different in this socom with the increased range of combat, as opposed to socom 2 where everybody had everything cranked all the way. Before we put some numbers to the categories of sniping, rushing, and camping (tell me if there are any more we should go over) I'll put out a rough estimate. Rushers: Highest you can be comfortable with, being able to look, and turn quickly is huge. Campers: Pretty slowly, being able to shoot slowly and accurately for headshots is big here. Fastest where you can hit a running target in the face. Sniping: Dead zone higher than normal, but speed and acceralation depends on how much quick sniping you do and how high a scope you use. Looking forward yo all of your contributions. Thanks for your time. -Midge

yea actually their has been a couple of threads started actually today on this topic, but you went more in depth into this discussion by saying the different saying for each player type. I do agree that controller setting should be up high for the rushers that need to look around faster. I have mine turned up almost to max, any higher and it would just be too quick and my shooting would just be totally off. Im comfortable with what i have now. Its sort of like the seal setting but a little tweaked.

The "dead zone" is how far away you spawn from the point where you die. The higher up it is, the further away you spawn. No not really, it adjusts for the analog sticks, the higher you go up, the further you have to move your sticks from centerline to register moving your analog sticks(move/aim). I just posted this in another forum and was corrected with the same information I wrote, but yeah, it is what it is

I think its the other way around. The higher the deadzone the more sensitive your analog sticks are. I don't play around with the deadzone or any of the setting for that matter because it always screws me up I just leave it as default.

yes, the later poster was correct as to how dead zone works. Thanks for your contributions by the way. If any of you want to post specific numbers that would be awsome as I'm not sure what the min-max is (0-100?). That might help. How fast do you all think the fastest somebody should go in this game is btw?

It may mess you up at first but the more you tinker with the controls and the more you use them and get used to them they can be a god send in clutch matches. You ever wander why some people complain about hitting someone in the back once or twice and the they just turn around and waste you? That is an example how the controller settings work. Before I messed around with the settings in Socom 2 I was one of the worst snipers out there but after I toyed around with the controls my sniping capability increased a lot. It is worth it to mess around with these controls and if you don't like it you can always go back to default. (EX: Your running and a guy is sneaking up behind you, you hear his footsteps and you know he's there, he pops off a quick shot doing nothin you whip around and blast him away. If you were to have the settings on low you'd most likely be dead before you turned 90 degrees)
