Since none of you can make a post over 20 words and still make any sense.
No the shotguns are not good for single player because most of the enemies are out of shotgun range and since this is in the single player forum, I'm guessing you asked whether they were good for single player or not? The shotguns are alright for online if your proficciant with them.
It depends on the map. If I'm in a city or in tunnels, then I'll use the shotgun. Even so, I find myself reaching for my sidearm alot. Hope that helps.

NEVER EVER let anyone but yourself use shotguns in single player. I was doing the citadel single player mission and i gave simple a TA and when escorting the hostage out of nowhere BANG for no reason he shoots me right in the back and kills me.
The only time I myself used a shotgun in single player is the killing feilds mission and i did pretty good.
I like to use the shotgun on Escalation but it's not as good on most other missions. I also suggest that you don't give them to teammates because they'll hit you with it once in a while.
