I'm currently getting an HD Ready TV for christmas. It won't have the reciever for programming, but i'm getting the HD comcast cable box. Besides that, can i play in HD on HD Ready TVs?
In essence all the built in tuner does is make it able for your tv to pull in unscrambled HD channels.If you dont have it you need a box.The thing is most people opt for Sat or Cable anyway in lui of an off air antenna,so it really doesnt matter one way or the other.Cable companies(like comcast)scramble the untuned HD channels usually so you have to pay their rip-off prices.So yes your cool and it will display HD.
