Post Weapon Usage: Seals & Terrorists
This Thread will provide a briefing on primary rifles and SMGs on Socom 3. Use this information to pick your gun of choice while playing. This article, supplemented by weapon attachments, will make you a master of Socom weaponry.

Section: 1 Seal Weapons

Section: 2 Terrorist Weapons

Section: 3 Seal/Terrorist Weapons

Seal Weapons:

IW-80a2

This gun should be your main silenced gunfighting gun. Proven through both tests and experience, the IW-80a2 is the most accurate full auto suppressor+frontgrip assault rifle on Socom 3. It is one of the only two class II silenced assault rifles (see gunfighting 101). With a front grip and rifle laser, it is one of the most accurate rifles in the game under any circumstance. It is also one of only two assault rifles to have a high scope, and the only full auto rifle to do so. A very useful gun.

M4a1

While there have been disagreements, long time experience and many tests have proven that the M4a1 is highly overrated. The M4a1 has a much larger spray radius than the IW80-a2, and a much lower accuracy. It can not equip the high scope, either. Despite the gun's deficiencies in this area, it does have a couple redeeming qualities. The M4a1 with a laser and front grip is more effective than the IW-80a2 due to nearly identical accuracy and higher firing rate. The M4a1 is also lighter than the IW-80a2. One final positive use for the M4a1 is shooting while prone, where accuracy is nearly perfect and fire rate makes up for lack of accuracy. The overall conclusion is stick to the IW unless you are toting a loud gun, proning, or overweight.

MK .48

While not technically an assault rifle or an SMG, the MK .48 is mentioned here due to it being the only machine gun that is used in the mainstream. The MK .48, with its 100 bullet magazine and two-shot chest kill ability is a very powerful weapon. In addition to its power and magazine size, the MK .48 is also very accurate with a front grip and rifle laser. This gun's only real weakness is long range, where the more accurate IW-80a2 and STG77 can out tapshot it.

hk36

A largely underrated weapon, the hk36 lacks the accuracy of the IW but makes up in firerate. Tests have shown that the hk36 is actually more accurate than the m4a1 under normal gunfighting circumstances. The hk36 does, however, lack in range compared to the m4. This is a good close range fighting gun.

hk7

The hk7 is a niche gun; weak in every area except speed and weight. This gun can excel in close range combat (for maps like Fault and Antenora) but due to high unpredictability is not a great choice.

hk5

The hk5 shares many problems with the hk7. The hk5 is an unpredictable gun, and is not to be relied on.

Terrorist Weapons:

STG77

The STG77 is, plain and simple, the victor of the trinity of silenceable terrorist assault rifles (STG77, 552, RA-14) with its high accuracy. The STG77 has tested to be the most accurate of these three assault rifles in full auto combat. While the 552 and RA-14 sometimes give off the impression of being better (getting quicker headshots) this is weighted by the fact that they are more erratic and unpredictable - for every occasion of the former there will be an opposite. The STG is also a great weapon with a front grip and a rifle laser.

552

While the 552 is still a powerful weapon in its own right, it is largely overshadowed by the more accurate STG77. The 552's claim to fame is the loud version (rifle laser and front grip), where accuracy is brought in line with the STG but fire rate gives the 552 an advantage.

RA-14

The RA-14 shares the erratic nature of the M4a1, in that it is more inaccurate than the class II assault rifles (see gunfighting 101) but sometimes gives the impression of being a better rifle because it gets misguided headshots more often. Generally, this gun is a poorer choice except for situations where you will have a harder time aiming due to its inaccuracy.

AG-94

The AG-94 is a very powerful, underrated gun. The AG-94, even without a high scope, is a very powerful scoping rifle due to its very low recoil, but unlike most scoping rifles the AG-94 retains its short-medium range full-auto gunfighting ability. The AG-94 is a great choice on maps like fault terrorist, where you want to scope along the back seal ledges but need to keep your gunfighting intact. The AG-94 is a true all-around gun.

F90

Complained about since the beginning of the game, the f90 has since been weakened but still remains a powerful close range SMG. The f90 is mostly ineffective at ranges over 40m, but within this range the extreme fire rate forces headshots.

Seal/Terrorist Weapons:

M16a2 - Seals and Terrorists

The M16a2 is an excellent rifle for all applications. It is commonly called your 'bread and butter' because it will fit any situation and is available to both seals and terrorists. Of all the non-sniper rifles in the game, the M16a2 has the best scoping ability and longest range. One distinction between the M16a2 and other rifles in its class is that the M16a2 does not have a full auto fire rate, so gunfights require tripleshotting. The M16a2's largest weakness is its lack of full auto fire rate and inability to be silenced. The m16 is a great choice when you are going to need scoping and gunfighting ability, though if you are anticipating gunfights and are a terrorist you may want to use the AG-94 instead.

This Thread is made for those who wish to know more about the Socom 3 Weapons. Thank you for viewing,

Yup and very underated in this game. The m14's fire rate and accuracy is damn good and can attach the high scope and rifle laser.I like this gun on any map with wide open spaces and close quarters combat.

Agreed. With No Snipers on, the M14 is quite reliable.

Nice guide man. Really puts the whole gun thing in perspective. I love sniping with the m14 and a highscope, and a bipod. Very accurate.
