Dont you dumb asses read anything anymore? The Slim PS2s all come with something called a 'manual'. If you read it, you will see that the slim ps2 must be unplugged when not in use for long periods; such as leaving your house or going to bed. They even have little diagrams for those of you who cant read, lol, it shows a person leaving their house and another one shows a person sleeping, lol.
The fat ps2 has a power switch on the back which can be switched off to cut all power to the console. The slim version does not. Unplugging it is the same as using the powerswitch. So with that said, the slim version is better because its hella quiet, smaller (takes up less room), faster load times, and it has the friggin' network card built in! Easily better than the fat peice of crap ps2s. You dont need a fan or to worry about it dying on you. Just unplug the damn thing whenever your not playing it.

I dont have one, I got a fatty, which in the 3+ years I've had it hasnt had a single problem yet.
But my friend has a slim. he doesnt have any problems with it. he doesnt unplug it cause hes not the manual reading type, plus if it break he'll just get a ne one cause he's spoiled. Maybe it just overheated on you. I dunno

I've heard of people setting up one of those small office fans and aiming it to the ps2.

SLIMELINE PS2s DO HAVE FANS, I HAVE HAD 2, TOOK BOTH OF THEM APART AND THEY BOTH HAVE FANS...THEY WOULDNT MAKE IT WITHOUT A FAN
EDIT: I am currently on my second slim ps2, my third overall, the only reason i am on my second slim, is because my dad was being a dickhole one night, and stomped it...but up untill then(i had for like 9 months prior to this) no problems at all. Just unplug it after use( that does really help the life span) and take good car of it, like me!!

On a side note: If you have a FAT PS2 that is broken and needs fixed or you just want to get rid of it check out this link.

i've had my fat ps2 since the original launch and i have only had to clean the lens a few times but other than that i have never had a problem. Funny thing is I still have the original controller it came with and that is still mint.
To the people that went through like 3-5 ps2"s, are you sitting on them when your playing?

Personally the fat ps2 is better in a few ways:
1. If you own the HDD, cuts down on either buying new memoery cards or just having to constantly delete stuff off the one you have. I have one and i have ps1 saves on it and ps2, mind you i have a slim ps2 but i use my friends fat one for my HDD uses. I use it a lot....
2. Durable, really, really, durable, easy to clean inside if it gets to dusty.
3. if you still own your first fat ps2 and it works fine, you've got some good braggin rights.
Myself i have a lot of traffic going through my house, beer being spilled, ash from smokes, smoke, anything you name it! I've gone through 4 fat ones, and 1 slim, im on my second at the moment. Someone said what do you do, sit on them? No i bring them eveyrwhere i go, my buddys hosue, well play some NHL, or golf, burnout etc...or when i go up to visit my hometown bring it hook up in my cousins place, all that banging around and stuff like that wears them out hardcore. On top of the starting of what i said before, this makes for a nightmare everytime i come home and look at my ps2.
p.s thank god for warrantys!
