What cables you want to run is more dependant on your tv.
If your tv has component inputs, most likely it supports 480i,480p,etc... In that case, you would def. wanna buy component cables, that allows you to play Socom in 480p, which is the best possible picture quality you are gonna get out of the game and system.
In general HDMI>Component>S-Video>RCA
just an fyi........if your tv has an s-video input, by all means use it!!
I hope you're right. You just motivated me to redo my entire system. I'm buying a 37" LCD today, bought the cables, and networking my PS2. This is costing my close to 2 grand, but I needed update my TV in my room anyhoo. Best Buy had this system hooked up in their store and I was simply amazed at what I saw there vs. what I see at home. Tired of not being able to see everything!

WooT....dude you are going to be so stoked!!!
Make sure you subscribe to the Hi Def cable/sattelite channels at some point too. You will end up getting picky about what you watch on tv too....lol

I would buy component cables... You will get an even better picture then s-video. It also allows you to play in 480p mode, if its a widescreen tv, also change the video setting to widescreen mode. And seeing as how its an LCD tv, I'm gonna assume 99% reassuringly to myself that it has component cable hookups (if not I would take it back).
grant it the s video cables are great but if you have a hdtv you need to get thoes cables they add about 25 to 40 better picture then the s video cable on a hd tv
i have to agree with tixbomber a set of component wires are better then s-video when i upgraded my from s-video to component wires i could see about a 25 to 20 % difference in my tv these cables do run a little more but are worth the money if you have the tv to use it with here is a sample of what i am talking about
the next best thing you can do besides get S-Video cable is go pick up a monster optical digital audio cable so you can get that digital sound to go along with that picture. it plugs directly into the back of the ps2 and then i have mine ran to my optical port on my reciever and wow what a difference.
