Someone over at zipper has no idea about scaling. An M40 can reach out and touch some one at around 940 meters. The M82 can top out at around 1890 meters. But my M82A1 on killing fields can only reach just under 200 meters. Zipper blows!

1890 meters is almost 1.2 miles.
Even if you could shoot that far in the game, how would you be able to see the people? 500x scope?
If you could shoot 1890 meters you could shoot well across the map and the game would be just rediculous sniping from people you cant even come close to seeing.

Zipper is smart, you are not.

I think it's good that Zipper purposely scaled down the range of weapons in this game. It would be too easy to take an M-16 (550 meter point target range), and use it to take down people from across the map.

One thing I would like to see would be the "leading" effect (i.e. you would have to lead the target if you are engaging it at long distances).

I agree with the decision that Zipper Made. Sniping is really easy in this game as it is. Being able to snipe from one side of Harvester to the other would be ******. Thats all people would do is snipe, and the game would suck.

The maps are big nowadays, but not big enough for the type of range you are talking about. In order to fully use the range, you'd need a gigantic open field, anyway.

Yeah, this has been discussed before, the M16 also has a range of 200+ meters (much more than 200 meters I believe). It's a video game, and some things have to be changed.

That would have been great to see. If a sniper had to adjust for distance, windage, target speed, and other variables, it would certainly make for a better challenge.

They cant make everything so accurate you know. But you would not be able to see that far as people have already stated. I think Zipper did the right thing since it would just result in more people complaining about a sniper rifles and being shot accross the map.

I think the problem with the sniper rifles in this game are that they are very dominant for a few reasons. First the scopes are so much better in this game than in socom 2. If you go back to socom two you'll notice you can't see **** in the scopes. Theres also better hit detection and bigger maps, which both play into sniping.

Sniping in S2 was harder also because there was less room. Maps were small and more close quarters... now in S3 it is much different.

If you think about it, it is better they made the scope larger (like you can see more in scope) because if you were actually looking through one you would be able to see a lot, not just a ton of black around the outside.
