So, What's Next...?

So what next? What would you like to see in the next installment of the game when it comes out? As many would expect, it will be coming out for the next gen PS3, and along with this new platform will come many great advancements in graphics as well as various other system capabilities. Again, what do you expect from the next game now that the limits of programming will be nearly 4 times greater then presently possible? What would you like to see and why? Please discuss…

I’d like to see better collision detection for the weapons when it comes to close quarters combat situations. You can’t run into a house with a full sized M16 and make all the shots you would with an MP5. I’d like this to be reflected a little better then it presently is. This could also apply when getting in really close to enemies. I’d also like to see a collapsible stock option for most weapons like UZIs, shotguns, certain assault rifles to work in conjunction with the above request.

Melee attacks, if not to kill, at least to distract or incapacitate the enemy. Giving you the chance to

I’d also like the ability to take hostages. If you incapacitate the enemy and bring them back to your base or designated area, the captives get points for every minute they hold the captive(s). Once a player has been taken captive, the character becomes and NPC if the game is a spawn game, the player can now respawn and join in on the rescue. If the hostage is freed successfully then the rescuing team gets all of the points accumulated by the captives.

Channel/Player frequency blocking like in Half-Life… I hate having to listen to some stoned out bastard that’s going on about the “killer buds” he got from some dude and that he’s baked out of his mind. Then some other lame bastard hops on and they argue about whose stuff is better and who higher then whom. Or the bastards that keep talking about random shit… Usually only like 1-3 of the 16 players you’re playing with, but those bustard’s ruin the whole game for everybody.

I’d also like a decent HUD to help you find your way around the map a bit better.

Team leader respawns like in the PC version of BFIIMC, it would make for better firefights I would think. Having to run miles just to get back to where the battle “was” sucks big time and slows the game down a lot I find.

Medics, but not like the ones in other games where they use a syringe and “heal” you. If you get wounded, you’ll bleed, if you don’t stop the bleeding, you die. So they don’t heal you, they stop you from bleeding out.

Destructible environments. With the amount of C4 and high-powered explosives being used in some games, it would be nice to see craters and trees falling over, as well as bushes and grass clumps completely destroyed, as well as the ability to collapse a building on top of a group of players. They did it, though poorly in Soldner for the PC, and did an alright job in Mercenaries… So I’m guessing that with the new platform they should be able to do this fairly well and add even more realism and strategy to the game.

I like a few of your ideas about the collapsable stock and most of your close quater ideas, but the hostage thing would be a turnoff to many players because seriously who would want to be sitting there waiting possibly for the whole game waiting for someone to show up to basically tag them....However, I really do like the idea of destructible enviorments.....The closest similarity we got was in Socom 1 and 2 in Desert Glory when shards of glass would break and piles of wood would cruble and fly into the air....But the building ideas will probaly not happen because that is a little unrealistic, although seeing holes in a building would be pretty sweet...

All in all you had some pretty good ideas... keep it up

Well we all know there WONT be a Socom 4, but I would REALLY like to see a new GEN combat game like Socom/Battle Field. I don’t know if they will but I hope so, once PS3 comes out this fall we will see what happens. Socom 3 will die down some after the ps3 launch and People will be looking for the next "popular" shooter for ps3, and like Xbox 360 the #1 game for online is Call of Duty 2. I hope PS3 will have a kick *** game already made and set to launch with the ps3 that will be awesome. But we shall see!

Loud... you misread the hostage thing... You basicaly are killed. The character you were playing as then becomes an NPC (non player controled) character. The way I see it, if you were to get shot in a non spawn game, you'd be watching anyhow till the round ends. At least this way, you could maybe get back in the game. And in a spawn game, you simply respawn and go again and try and free your own character...

I'd also like them to work on their use of lighting. Darkness is the most important part of stealth. If someone is in a light-well of cone of darkness, you shouldn't be able to see them very well... See Splinter Cell for an exact example of what I'd like to see... Complete with a gauge to say how light or dark an area is and if you're in either the light or the darkness.

Not bad ideas. I'm not crazy about the medics though. Remember, you are part of an "insertion" team charged with completing specific objectives, not front line troops on the battlefield. As such, you and your team are pretty much on your own in battle.

I definitely would like to see more realistic environments. We have better grass & bushes now, but it should be blown away when someone 'nades it.
Buildings should show damage (if not collapse entirely), especially now that we have tanks. Maybe trees should come down. Rain could make slippery conditions for people and vehicles.

I agree that the lighting in the game is not as good as it could be. The Syphon Filter series (excluding Omega Strain) were a good example of how lighting should be done. (And they were on PS1)

Fire caused by combat could produce smoke which could overcome enemies, or even injure them directly... FLAME THROWERS!!!

Anyway, I'm pretty sure that we can expect the next installment of Socom to blow away anything offered by the X-Box 360 (Assuming it's for the PS3).

A much larger selection of weapons would be nice, if only to add more variety to gameplay... the guns we have now cover all bases, any other guns are either concept designs or ancestors of the weapons available, but you can't go wrong with more guns

To be honest I hope Socom 4 doesn't come out soon. I hope they wait a year to make it. Not only will it be better developed but we all will get to enjoy Socom 3 for awhile. I mean I just bought the game a couple of months ago I want to play it for atleast a year without thinking about Socom 4.

I heard a rumor that Zipper was going to begin work on a game similar to the Socom platform but not under the Socom name.

I agree with Mr~Pan. I want to enjoy 3 for a year or so. They need to fix some of the stuff, and it would be nice, to have some kind of update, to add a few things. But other than that, I want them to take their time on 4, and do the best they can, to make it right, the first time.
I've said it before, I'd love it if they made changable environments. I'd love to see a wall/house get blown up by C-4 or other high explosive stuff. If you shoot one of the oil/water tanks, with the tank or something, it should get a big hole in it. Then, you could set the oil on fire, with some tracer rounds. And you should be able to chew up houses, etc with the MG's. You should also be able to run over trucks with the tank and Bradley. And roll a vehicle, if you get a little to squirrely. That kind of stuff, will really add to a already great game.
