I was thinking about getting the slim, but then I realised that there is absolutley nothing wrong with my fatty besides the fact that it is old and big. plus I heard bad things about the power cord that it breaks easily or something...

Actually, it's not that it breaks easy, it's that it's a fire hazard (it has since been fixed, but there was a problem with some of the earlier models overheating). No worries though, if anything goes wrong in the future, for everyone's sake just know that SCEA recalled it. You can find the literature online at their site (tells what model numbers were suspected faulty), or in places like EBGames and Gamestop.

And yes, no sense in "fixin it if it aint broken." I wish I didnt have to buy a slim model, I think the old ones are better online, my slim gets tons of disconnects and join game errors now. I never got any with my launch one unless the server itself was down. Damn you dog, but oh well, Great Danes arent exactly graceful.

I have a slim and don't have any problems with internet on it, if I have any problems it's because the room is just f'd up or whatever.

im in australia, but i was still affected by the whole overheating power pack thing. i had to replace 3 ps2s (all from the same replacement store, which i think was the problem) because they stopped reading discs. the overheating frys the laser or something like that. i really think the lack of a cooling fan (in exchange for the slim size) was a bit of a mistake, just look at the size of the new ps2, i think its about the same size of the old fatty.

Actually, the slim is substantially smaller. I have raised mine up on a peg stand, I figured less heat would get trapped underneath. Don't know if its useful but it cant hurt. I'm also thinking about getting a USB fan to push cool air into the vents. I'm just not sure if it would work with the PS2 like it would for a Computer (the usb slot) though.

The slim is actually alot smaller I was shocked when I got it home and took it out of the box I was surprised at how smaller than the box it was, but those power supplies take up alot of space so having that dc/ac adapter really saves alot of space. As far as the overheating mine gets pretty hot but I haven't had any problems yet.

i got a slim in like october and i have left it on standby sicne then and it has never heated up. i also have had it running for over 12 hours straight and it didn't even warm up. downloading the patch was a snap, just took a little time to transfer. nothing has gone wrong for me. i rarely get disconnects or fiailures. it has been on standby straight for 4 months and its fine. so maybe u guys just got faulty ones.

Yeah it's damn small. I bought a new PS2 for a diff place a while ago and they gave me a slim and I pick up this little black thing from the box and I was like wtf? It's so thin.

Then new slim is so freaking light weight. I would try & press the stand by button & practically push the entire console off the platform. And u best stabilize the silly thing if u plan on taking out the memory card or controller. It almost seem like a cheap piece of crap. I hope that's not the case. lol
