I just have my game hooked up to the tv speakers lol. Thats good enough for me, but if I wanted to add to the experience I could just move everything into the other room with surround sound.

I just recently discovered that I can plug my ps2 into my stereo system about 2 weeks ago and it does make the game alot better. You can hear where people are approaching you from, you can hear if a grenade hits a wall, you hear the gunshots alot better, and you can actually tell where they're coming from. You hear all kinds of strange noises in the backround you didnt even know were there(I think there was a post about this somewhere). The explosions are so much better with real speakers. The only thing that kind of sucks is when you're driving a vehicle you get alot of wind noise and you can't hear other things as good, but I'll never go back to playing socom with a sound system.

Yea, I love playing Socom. It so much different on a 61" HDTV running at 480p. It makes it much easier to identify targets and the game looks crisp. To go along with the earthquaking Klipsch THX home theater I have, it puts a big ol' on my face... Also, if your receiver has an optical in, buy an optical cable. I run them for everything, only way to get true 5.1& up surround sound. And yes, it does make a noticeable difference over simulated surround sound aka. stereo surround.

I play on a 35inch hdtv, with surround sound, not some cheap surround sound either. I like it.

I play on a 20 inch JVC t.v. I got the playstation hooked up to a Sony stereo that's booming.

How does that work with the optical, I have an input on the back of my system but I have never dealt with optical cabling, is there a wire for each speaker and they all input to the same place??

No, just the one in the back. Optical cables only do audio as well, but its a true digital source, so instead of converting digital to analog, its true digital to digital. To get the most out of a HDTV ready tv, buy the component cable (only way to show video in 480 progressive)set as well.

I know theres only one input, but what i'm asking is that the wire from each speaker all go into the same input, just sounds funny. I have monster component cables already.
