Being out of range with a gun!
If you can see a guy with an assault rifle you're going to shoot. Sometimes you hit the guy in the head leave red dots on his body and he either walkes away or is in range and killes you. What can we do to know whether it's in own range or not??? Besides if you can leave red dots on the other guy and its in the head shouldn't he die!?!?

They should die if there is a mark on them. I would rather miss then leave a red dot on their body. As far as telling in range you really can never be 100% positive when they are in good range. You might not want to take any shots over 100m with an assault rifle and let them move in a little more.

The meter scale thing when you zoom in with your scope sure turn into a

- - -m instead of for example 120m

Yeah the red dots will still show up on them, even if you are out of range, kind of stupid but yeah whatever.

I dont think --- means out of range... it just means there is no object within like 200m... sometimes you will get a distance of like 150m on a M16 show up and you are still out of range...

if i remember correctly the guide says that --- is out of range for your weapon. but the m16, especially when sniping to the lake in devils road, lacks range detection

the surpresser decreases the guns range by a lot. if you max range use the M82 or M87 ecause no matter how far they are you can shoot them. but in real life a bullet arches. so really any gun can shot far, but will lose its power.

That doesn't make much sense to me... --- Means it is out of range for the scope, it can't calculate the range. But just know your guns, know the ranges. If you need to know some, refer to this thread:

NOTES:
All testing was done ONLINE and at 30 meters except for the shotguns which was done at 10 meters. Shots where fired at center mass i.e. “Above the belt to below the neck line and from shoulder to shoulder“. As you can see from the list above, no weapon in the SOCOM 3 arsenal takes more than 3 shots to kill someone. Shooting at the back of the target also at center mass achieved the same results.

From testing I concluded a very consistent shot to damage health ratio with weapons that have a 3 shot kill ratio, The First shot did less then half damage and the second did less then half, this left you with a red bar and only an 1/8 of your health left. With that said, the last shot does not have to be center mass, it could be made anywhere else on the body and you would effectively kill your target. The legs registered to take about a ¼ from your health. The arms varied a little bit from 1/8 to a ¼. Head shots on all weapons would kill the target.
The 2 shot to kill weapons using the same fraction ratio as above registered as, 1st shot toke ½ away from your health and the 2nd shot another ½ killing the target.
With the 1 shot to kill weapons as long as you hit center mass, it would kill the target.
Also to note, that silencing the weapon made no change to the shots to kill ratio, it only effected it’s range. In respect to the effective range of the weapons, firing at anything outside the range of that weapon did not register, so good bye are the days of people sniping someone from across the board with the DE. It cannot happen in SOCOM 3.

For accuracy it is hard to describe which ones are better than the other, for example the 9mm from a distance of 30meters toke 10 shots just to get the 3 that actually hit the target, this was the worst case. We repeatedly did the same test just to make sure that the shots to kill ratio for that weapon was genuine. The machine guns did the same thing though not nearly as bad with 1 or 2 shots missing the target completely at 30 meters. The assault rifles and assault carbines did very will, they never missed a beat when hitting the target at 30meters.

My 2 cents, From testing all these weapons, one thing strongly standed out to me, why would almost all of the main weapon rifles not including sniper rifles of course have the same shot to kill ratio. It puzzled me since in SOCOM 2 there where differences, the HK5 toke 6 shots and the M14 toke 2, that made sense to me i.e. “bigger bullet” M14 shots a 308 the HK5 shots a 9MM, the M14 had more stopping power. This is truly not the case in socom 3. What I do see is the weapons ability to stay on target out to its effective range on FULL AUTO!!!. All of our testing was done on single shot if available or tapping the firing button on a full auto weapon to hit the target. When you go FULL AUTO with any of these weapons the bullets start to spread out, This spreading out of the bullets I believe is different per weapon and I believe its range has a factor in when this spread occurs.

Special thanks to A.WOLF in assisting in testing.
