I've started using mine a bit more. But not to tell if a team member is what I'm shooting at. I like to see the names, thank you very much! But it is handy, to see where your people are, in general. Or if a vehicle is close by.

True, I feel you there. But, the people I play with, play realisticly, Friendly Fire Enabled, 11 rounds, 5min a round. But c'mon. Don't you think its noobish not to look at your radar? They teach you this in single player mode on how to read the radar. This also shows you how many people take the time to play offline. Lazy people. "Can I copy your memory card?" "Mail me your Memory card." Meh.

I guess i can feel your pain but it just doesnt bother me much to be team killed. I am lucky i guess and only have 6 team kills out of 78 games played so im doing fine and i NEVER look at the radar...like you said you are gonna play realistically then the radar isnt realistic :P I guess it also helps my stats TK wise that im a rusher and die within the first 3 min of the round after a get a few kills :P But i would suggest to do what warlock said even though you all may not "like" it for realistic purposes....it is a game in the long run so there is only so much realism to be had. If this was real life and someone capped you in the azz then hell yeah id be mad if i were you but since its a game and if your in public rooms when its happening then you gotta take those lumps.....not saying you got be happy about it though :P

Agreed. And this is why I don't take "Rank" seriously, because of the "Fact" that it's "Only a game at the end". And on the radar thing. the only thing I see it realistic is, because you do see it in the Army, Navy, Air Force. In SOCOM it helps you know the maps Hot Spots. Also its hard to "TK" when you see(Eyes Open) blue dot moving about.

What you don't realize is that, when you see a unit and you can't tell if he is friend or foe, you dont look at your radar to check because you know that delay of .5 of a second can cost you your life. Thus, people just shoot first. At long range, it doesnt show up on the radar, and at short range the name almost always shows up so if it doesn't people asume its an enemy.

how is the in game radar "realistic"? plus, the radar dosen't do squat for you when you're trying to snipe somebody out of radar range.
and before anyone says anything about "just look at the uniforms" i'd like to point out that there is very little difference between terrorists and seals ghilley suits, or the uniforms in general when you're using a thermal scope.
i would also like to point out that the names should always be visible and those of you that want "realism" can turn names off completely in your options if i remember correctly. some of us want to play socom 3 like the GAME it's meant to be, not like the SIMULATOR some of you would like it to be.
|
True, I do want the Simulator feel. It's still there but clunky. Also I have no problem seeing from far away. When I use a high scope + my very own 20/20 vision I know the difference between a SEAL or Terrorist. Im not in my chair up close to the T.V. squenting my eyes saying "Is that a Terrorist or a SEAL?" If I'm on foot and just rushing on a assult. I have no problem running to where you spawn. All I'm saying is the radar mimimize the TK ratio and the complants of "I didn't see your name". thing. Also its meant to be a "Simulator". I thought all games where. You didn't notice some games play like movies and some games be based on a persons dream or what they wanted to do as they were growing up.

What has screwed me up a couple times and cost me a kill is when it is OPFOR and you are close (just rounded a corner) and it shows the name.
That is the worst, because subconciously my figer comes off the trigger when a name pops up.

LOL....This is why you look for a " Blue Dot." It's not hard I do just fine with it.

I know how to use the radar, I was talking about that one second of additional hesitation caused, subconciously, when the name pops up on an OPFOR.

Yeah, all you people gotta do is shift you're reflexes from shoot then look to look then shoot. I know it's hard after years of the sprayfest known as Socom 2, but I've managed to do it.
