MASSIVE UPDATE 1UP + new screens

with the embargo ending, i thought 1up might do a good preview (just so that they beat gamespot and ign to it). well its more like an interview with seth and david

some points
- there is going to be a new bluetooth headset which is bundled
- the website is going to be integrated with the game and supposedly the biggest site ever created for a game by SCEA..you can see tournament details, manage your clan, look at stats, updates
- crossroads is the only classic map thats going to be released on launch, they will take feedback from the community and see if there is an interest on releasing some classic maps
- "We did some technology tests where we were just testing the idea of blowing holes in walls and doing things like that but they really quickly break the flow and the intended design of a map. So we have highly destructible cover, we have lots of different props that break, and we have bullet penetration"

I don't see the guy with a leg in the wall. The guys at the top of the hill are bit too far away to tell, but the second guy in from the right at the bottom of the hill is kneeling and you are seeing his boot, not half a leg missing.

I hope they sell the MGS4 headset separate from the game. I no longer have a headset because my Uncle took mine when I wasn't in so the MGS4 one is a prime opportunity. Only problem is I wont want the game, only the headset.

I am starting to have my doubts about this new SOCOM though. The more recent screenshots do look better than the older ones, but they still aren't living up to COD4 for me. If the only reason they are holding back from COD4 graphics is because the game will be available for download, here is a revolutionary idea; don't make it available for download. Downgrading the graphics because it's an online only game is just a crap excuse.

I don't see the leg in the wall either. And you're right, the graphics don't look as good as COD4 and there is no reason that they shouldn't be. But then again, it's not like they looks bad or anything.

his legs not in the wall. they did say that there biggest objective/focus thus far has been getting the core game up and running, which to me doesn't mean getting the graphics to par with COD4. Also different levels are at different levels of completion. They have a lot of time to push the graphic levels but i don't know how far they will be able to take it. I don't see the point in downloading any game, with the disc at least you can sell it. What i can see is that as time goes by and we approach release, the graphics will get better and better. If you look at some of the stuff on urban wasteland, its obvious they haven't bothered yet to make the textures nice etc.

Gameplay > Graphics

Don't compare COD4 to SOCOM. Both completely different styles of play, just the same concept and themes. More graphics means more lag... even if it's next-generation gaming... nothing is perfect.

More graphics =/= lag

More graphics = slow frame rate


That is only if it is too much for the hardware to handle, or it is poorly optimized.
