Its not just you. I find that some of the environements look better, some look worse. All teh character models look worse (this is all in comparison to the last two screens) =\ . However I love the architecture in xroads, the lion statue and the new tower look sick The rubble/concrete pieces on urban wasteland dont look so good. I think they will probably work on textures ... its weird though as theyre going to have a beta soon and theyre focusing on weapon/map tuning/balancing (according to socom.com) and petty things like the placement of a few trucks. Im sure these things can be adjusted later on (just before or after beta). Imo, they need to make this game truly look next gen. I think the game will look (graphics wise) awesome if they just spend a bit of time on it in the time they have left.
I also reckon that the developers should be more creative with the destructable environments - I see a lot of cars ready to be blown up and im sure there will be barrels here and there, but id like to see something different in the mix as well. Maybe parts of buildings should crumble when hit with rockets etc without exposing the interior (hence not affecting map balance). I hope chunks of concrete or grass are blasted everywhere if u throw a grenade on the ground.
On a side note, does anyone know why it seems to be that sony hardly spends any resources/money on the socom franchise in comparison to games like killzone and warhawk? According to something i read, killzone and killzone liberation have sold 1 million combined, compared to socom 1's sales of 3.4 million and socom 2's 2.7 odd sales. I can understand sony wanting this to be sony's halo killer or whatever and that they want a killer first person shooter but they should still do more for socom. Im also keen to know about zippers "unnamed project" that i thought was socom 4 but apparently according to seth it could be something else. Does this mean S6 may develop the next socom for the ps3? Im still a bit nervous about S6 undertaking such a huge project, theyve been great so far and communicated with the community thus far, and theyve put in all the hard work but doesnt necessarily meant the game is going to be awesome (granted it looks like its headed into the right direction). Apparently that tactical strike game they developed has only sold 60k copies =\, looks to be a bit of a failure.
