The players move like stiff machines walking in mud. I would rather choose excellent gameplay over stunning graphics. (See Grand theft auto and socom 1-3/ca)

So when Krave and others say that this was not zipper's socom and that they are truly making their own next gen socom 4 for the ps3 I was relieved. Because Socom Confrontations would make me leave socom for good and stick to Socom/Ca as long as the servers still ran. To me this game looks more like all the other socom lookalike tactical shooters. I dont want socom to turn into those games. Vehicles was a nice addition to Socom 3 and I want that to stay the same. This game makes me want to hurl
The players in S3, when compared to S1/S2, move like "stiff machines walking in mud". And i bolded the games and the "slow and cumbersome" becuase thats what S3/CA are, slow and boring. This game, with revamped S2 maps (or just new ones that look similar idr atm), will have gameplay that is 30x better than the crap that you play now, just on the simple fact that it will get people (people that dont' prone for 3 minutes mind you) off of S2 and onto Confrontation. Ergo, more gunfights, more action, MORE FUN.

I'm really hyped for the zipper one. If they actually go back to the roots and make a Socom-esque single player and Socom II-esque multiplayer, I might just bust a nut.

Confrontation doesn't look that bad either. If that's crossroads, it looks completely different and much bigger. Like, they pushed everything back further from the middle but kept the same proportions. It's really gay though that it's gonna take up room on the harddrive more than pretty much any other game for the PS3, I mean come on, the reason why I was so excited by blu-ray was its 50Gb storage space.

::EDIT::

Also, I'm loving the idea of two different developers working on socom. The previous Socom's were pretty much all rushed. Socom II and Socom Combined assault were both released a year after Socom 1 and Socom 3, respectively. But, Zipper is gonna have 2 full years of working on this title. A bit more if they started right after socom 3, actually. Either way, I hope they take their time with it. I want the single player to make me want to be a navy Seal, sort of like how Socom 1 did. And if the online is as friendly, intimate, and diverse as Socom II was, this is gonna be friggin awesome.

It's probably part of the reason why he only has three posts... maybe he doesn't have much to say? Or he has nothing important to say?

I was kind of wondering the same thing... glad someone else decided to ask before I did.

I don't understand how everyone can constantly bash Zipper... They did bring us Socom, after all. If you want to blame someone, you should be blaming Sony, and here's why: after the acquisition of Zipper by Sony the series went down hill. Now I don't know who's fault that really is (Sony or Zipper), but all the blame can't be put on Zipper.

That being said, I think Zipper's problem is that they listened to people's complaints about Socom, and then Socom II. The problem was that the vocal minority caused changes in gameplay to be put into effect that the happy majority didn't like. I can't count on two hands the amount of people I know that quit Socom because the changes from Socom to Socom II. In my opinion the overall experience was a downgrade, but I have a few details to point out on the subject. Many people that played Socom didn't like Socom II as much and complained, I remember it on these forums quite well. That being said, Socom II was more successful than its predecessor, possibly because of the changes that were made. And as such, people that never played the original game found that, for the most part, they didn't like the original as much because of the same changes.

My only point is that every time a new game is released, some people are upset about the changes and some people are happy about them. They are trying to attract more people to the Socom series, and are listening to what the public is saying in hopes to make more sales. The problem is that the public only speaks up when it has a complaint, not when something is going well. How often do you see "I really like this feature" versus "why did they have to do that, that sucks!"?

Overall I blame people's complaints that I don't agree with, because obviously I wanted the gameplay to stay similar just with new maps and weapons, and possibly a few features. I blame Zipper for listening to people's complaints without taking them with a grain of salt - there's a reason Socom got popular. But I also say congratulations to Zipper for those same changes - they made the game quite successful, even if I didn't like it as much. And I blame Sony just because I don't like them and I think they must have done something bad (they're evil, ya' know?)!

Now back on to the topic of a new Socom... I can't say whether or not it's good that another studio is developing the game. If they've decided to take the best features of each of the Socom games and pack it all into one, it could turn out really good. But that depends on if their definition of good feature coincides with my definition, which isn't all that likely looking at how many people loved Socom II.

I think its a positive that they are solely concentrating on the online part with Confrontation. As this is the most popular feature anyway. I find it more of a hassle having to play the off-line version of games these days. Except if its a really good game like Gears of War.

They used their brains and realized that online is everything. Considering the fact that this game only took months to create, it should surely pay off for them.

I wouldn't be surprised if a Beta test comes out very soon since they mentioned the game will be released later this year.

Whether or not it could bring back the Socom 1 or Socom 2 feel remains to be seen.
