That's one major improvement that was sorely needed

Definately, we as the Socom Community needed some sort of customization and it's great to hear that clans will pretty much have their own uniforms and emblems.

That sounds pretty awesome.

I'm getting a bit more interested in this, getting that Socom itch that I'm sure we all know too well.

There's a few things that concern me though. For starters it only comes with 5 maps, and is reliant on periodic updates and DLC. When was map pack #2 supposed to come out? That's what I thought.

Secondly, all this talk about smaller, more confined and detailed environments that are reminiscent of S1 & S2. That's all fine and good, but they're going to cram 32 people into them? It gives me flashbacks of Citadel and Bitter Jungle when I think of what it'll be like with 32 people on a small map.

It's still pretty exciting and promising so far.

Well now that it is headed by a new developer I bet that DLC comes out "On-Time" and "Polished". Those are two things Zipper did not do well, but hopefully that will change with Slant Six.

Also the 5 maps are probaly Fish Hook, Sandstorm, Crossroads, New Map, New Map. Looking back I remember playing all three of those known maps more than any other Socom map so I think the hardcore fans will be set for the first few months.

The maps I believe will not be a problem, if they do it right everything will be great, and they're only five months into development so they have a ways to go.

It is still 32 player combat, but it will be a lot more smaller and from Seth Lusi's mouth "more intimate". He also went on to say that there will be no vehicles and that the game will be going back to its roots.

All of this sounds fantastic and I am sure that I will buy a PS3 now when I hear a **** load more about this.

BTW here's a preview from 1UP.com that is fantastic. I recomend you to go check it out.

SOCOM Confrontation PS3 Preview, SOCOM Confrontation Playstation 3 Preview

EDIT: It will only ship with five maps all based on the North Africa area operation and it will updates constantly.

Clans will be able to make their own uniform for clan matches and individual players will be able to change any aspect of their character.

I seriously cannot wait!!!!!!!!
Wow that sounds so cool. I can't wait to customize my guns and character and of course spend countless hours engaged in epic online warfare!!!!! I kind of wish there was single payer though. I love the stealth aspect of single player as oppsed to the chaos in multiplayer (not that I don't like that in socom) I hope they find someway to incroperate singleplayer or a campaign. Come to think of it they might do Co-op instead. That might not be such a bad idea.

There are also a bunch of things i noticed from screen shots and when I went through the video frame by frame:

1. There is blood in this game, meaning it will probably be rated Mature and they will probably change the Mercenaries
back to Terrorists.
2. There is still a health bar. Personally I hate the health bar. I think it's better when there isn't one or if you're hurt, you should start limping or something.
3. The SEALs had RPGs so all the weapons might be available for both sides to use or might mean nothing.
4. In a screenshot I noticed that a SEAL was carrying an M4A1 but with a CQB (short) barrel. This could mean the game will have extensive weapon customization like I've been hoping for. Here's the pic...

5. As we know from the article, the environments are more destructable/interactive. One example in a barrel exploding at the end of thevideo.

Let us not all get too hyped...to me right now...this is probably the deciding SOCOM.

If it's bad...say goodbye to SOCOM
If it's average (Like S3) say goodbye to SOCOM

If it's great...then why all means yay.

To me, if there is an average feel to this...then forget it. You know why? It's next-generation, the producers should know their biggest mistakes from S3, and it is owned by Sony.

So by all means this game is either going to revive or kill the series.

P.S. I think vibration is key...just think of how many ways it has helped you...so they need to add an option whether you're using a Six-Axis controller or a converter to use the old PS2 controller.

VIBRATION IS KEY!

Also...from the looks of the preview...all I can say is Ghost Recon:Advanced Warfighter. I would not be surprised if they add a covering mechanic.

I hate to be the pessimist surrounded for optimism for this game...but God damn, didnt we get all riled up about Socom 3? Look where it got us...

We got excited about an in-game ladder system, look at how that turned out? No one gives a **** about the in-game ladder system, ppl are still relying on Gb. We all got excited about Ghillie suits, til they made games drag on for ages. We rooted for silencers on almost every gun...We cheered for Weapon customization and to a degree we got it. But how much customazition did we get? Take the M4A1 you got to choose whether you wanted a silencer or not? Wow! But wait we had that in S2 it was called M4A1 SD, plus the scope was included! What a dealYes, the customization for your own playing style was improved but not very well....I always saw the same old weapon combos over & over again.

So in Confrontation we have character customization huh? Theyre going to have to be pretty extensive in order to do any good, because if they do a half-assed job itll end up like the S3 ladder system. Redudant and useless.

And updates, Socom 3 was a joke with updates. There hardly were ever patches and when they released they did next nothing.

So sorry if I burst anyone's bubble but for me, Im going to assume the worst...that way when this game promises everything and delievers nothing, I wont be as disappointed as last time. If its great and brings Socom back to what it used to be then, HEY Ill be happy about it.

right after seeing that trailer earlier today, i had this major urge to play socom 3. i played for 2 hours (thats the most since SCA came out), and to be honest, its improving. there was very little glitching. and was really really fun. i think i might get back into it.

im so pumped for november now because my birthday is in october and i plan on getting a ps3. and then a month later a new socom comes out. w00t.

One thing doubters need to remember (or know if they don't) is that Zipper isn't doing this one, they have no stake in this game. Since it's a new developer, I have faith they'll take it in the right direction, but only time will tell.
