EGM article on Confrontation
From the March 08 issue of EGM which talks about the PS3's breakthrough year. They have Confrontation listed as one of their Big games.
word for word from the magazine :
Quote:
Socom: Confrontation
Sony CEA * Fall 2008
PS3's answer to : Ghost Recon 2
Yeah, yeah -- we know the last GRAW installed landed on both the PS3 and 360, but the game was definately a much bigger deal (especially among online gamers) for Microsoft's system. Luckily , PS3's 2008 comeback trail should include a tactical, squad-based beast of its own. And it just happens to come from the same franchise that convinced so many people to go online with their PS2's.
"Our goal is to make Confrontation the leading online console game just as previous versions of the series were". says Seth Luisi , director of development for Sony CEA.
Like Warhawk, Confrontation will be available via download or in stores.
Developer Slant Six Games will spearhead the project (longtime SOCOM maker Zipper Interactive is apparently working on another game in the series) , and since this will be an online-only affair. Luisi tells us a lot of the effort is going into the game's clan and community aspects. He also promises us that by the time Confrontation launches, we'll see much prettier battlefields than those initially shown. "When I introduced the game to the press last May". he says, "it was extremely early in development and the team had only been in full production for a few months. As with any project, the game has evolved significantly since then and when we reintroduce Confrontation , I dont think anyone will be disappointed".

The mention of Zipper working on another game in the series is definitely going to be Socom 4. I have some...*cough* insider info on this.. They never officially announced it yet. But it will be.
Its good to know that the early footage of Confrontation was from very early development. The graphics didnt Wow me too much back then.

Buzz, buzz, hype, buzz, yawn.
Give us some real details already, not regurgitated PR crap. I'd love to see how the game is looking currently, and whether it'll get an '08 release or not.

Liberteine I know that you sold SOCOM4.com to Sony months ago. I also remember you talking about selling the url back in May when they initially showed Confrontation.
BTW, in the next couple of months there should be a cover story on SOCOM Confrontation in EGM the main editor was hinting at one on a recent podcast.

OMG, those screens are h-a-w-t. Total improvement from what we last saw.
I'm starting to smell the win.

No videos? How come each news is always general stuff like "we will work hard to bring you the best experience ever" or "our man is still working hard for months". I hate it.

sony controls when media and information is released. I think its just to do with marketing, there is no point releasing footage too early as the short term hype will fade away. Showing an unfinished product is dangerous - a lot of people thought the alpha footage would be what they would see in the final game.
