Just an idea........
Who says you have to be on staff to take requests?
If there is someone who is graphically capable and has the time to fill a request then they should be allowed to try and help out. It would be solely the choice of someone not on staff to just say "here's a little something I did just for the hell of it....If you like it then by all means enjoy my gift and if you don't like it then it's all cool too. Just trying to help out :)"
I see no problem with it and encourage anyone who doesn't have a blue name to help out the community if they are kind enough to do so. Who knows....maybe a willing participant would make a welcome addition to the staff. Kindness goes a long way.

The GFX Staff has been against this sort of thinking for some time now. I know Wabba takes offense when people not on the staff take requests so I will open this back up to entertain comments.

If random people started taking request you would end up with a lot of people with crappy non GS made sigs like Go Pre's.

We have a few main reasons why we do not want other people taking requests.
Sypher mentioned one reason.
If anyone does requests, requesters will not be happy because they are getting a bad sig.
If a person really wants to take requests, they can apply. It's not that hard.
Pat, I did not mean to offend you, I was just stating that even if we have inactive users (we do), we do not need to fire them or hire new members. Things are pretty slow right now and only a few requests remain open.

Sypher you have a valid point. That would be just awful.
Let me rephrase something....
If some random non-staffer wanted to make a sig they should be allowed to. I would NOT consider this kind gesture as officially "taking the request" but just a kind gesture if they wanted to be nice while someone was on life support waiting for a sig.

It's pretty hard to join any staff here at the forums actually. There rarely is a need for new members or added help.

If you think the GFX aren't fufilling their criterion as staff members, I would have to go ahead and disagree with you. The GFX do this out of the graciousness of their own hearts in their free time (of which some have so little these days).
If the GFX themselves feel they are not doing their positions justice they would have made the call to open applications for a new staff member. It has been done before when in need. I think they are doing a great job, and always have. Down way back to the Scuba days.

At the moment, it would be hard to join the GS because we do not need new members. When we need an addition member, the chances rise, obviously. We only have a couple of requests open, it's not like we're flooded, so we do not need someone new.

Those were the days...
Thanks to everyone who thinks we're doing a good job, as you all know, we don't get much credit, so it's nice to hear it from time to time.
For those that think we suck, (i'll go with a usual GS response) go to hell.
