More video gamey stuffs...
Just thinking outloud here...

Since these are the video game forums, why not have some video game related features?

How about fields in our profiles for PS3/ XBOX/ Wii handles?

I'm not sure about PS3/Wii, but I know for Xbox you can add friends, send messages, etc all through the web. How about some of that stuff?

Like in addiition to the digg and del.icio.us links, there be image links to functions related to each system handles?

So if you had your XBL name in your profile, icons would show up with your posts to send you friend invites and such on XBL.

Just a thought.

That does sound like a good idea...

We'll have to look into how we could possibly do it a bit, though.

Its not a bad idea the problem is finding a program to impliment those options into the forum, or someone would have to find a way to make these.

I'd do a victory dance, but I can't find the right button for it. Thus, I resort to doing the 'cabbage patch' at my desk...

It would require extensive mods into the vB database to add the Fields for PS3/XBL/Wii handles. But not too hard.

As for the friend invite things, you'd most likely have to contact the companies and ask if it's even possible, and, if so, you can have the coding/programming to use on the site.(You'd have to give credit to them somewhere.)

There are so many modifications that would make it more fun here. But its what we sacrafice that could make the general experience here even worse. Slower loading times , more php errors, more obstacles when upgrading, and then some...

Generally we avoid adding stuff that is NOT officially from vBulletin, unless they are built into the actual vBulletin upgrade itself. Even the smallest modifications can make us more vulnerable to hackers.

On the flip side, Im hoping a program simaler to "Zoints" (what a weird name, right?) will be implemented with future versions of vBulletin. It seems to be the latest crave lately with Forum sites. Its a Myspace type integration within the forums.

more info about it here -

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=130946

generally what Zoints does -

Quote:
What will Zoints local bring to my forum?

About Me, My Discussions, My Links, Instant Chat, My Photos My Interests, My Communities, My Network, Quick Comments, Ratings, My Blog, RSS Feeds, Social Actions and many more. Virtually any existing "widget" shared on the internet can quickly be converted into a block, many in just a few minutes.
Basically we could create MySpace pages here. Instead of using myspace.com. an example :

http://tntu.net/z/Dave/

That page of his is purely run by Zoints. A modification that could be added here.

Zoints = yuck. Myspace FTW

IMO, the zoints thing is just a huge clutter and alot more to do from a moderating point of view.
