The people at IGN should stop crying and go bake a cake or start a garden out in their front parking lot. There's lots of other stuff to do in life than give games bad reviews.
I don't think IGN cries about games. They gave their opinion on a game and that's how they scored it.
As much as everyone wants the game to be awesome, the game is broken and Slant Six released an unfinished game. IMHO.
I just love how you insult them by calling them "untested donkeys"
Lets get the record straight. Just because the game got a bad score and has a few minor issues doesn't make it a bad game, the game is great, its fun and thats all that matters, no one cares what ign thinks, no one cares what gamespot thinks and no one cares what you think, the game is great, they did an amazing job with this socom. Its not socom 4 so quit the complaining.
Also, I'm not all that disappointed with Confrontation. It is a HELL of a lot better than RSV2 was at launch...
You're totally accurate in saying that Confrontation's launch was better than R6V2's launch on the PS3... I just find it odd that R6V2's launch wasn't nearly as horrible over on Xbox Live. The difference was like night and day to people like me, who owned a copy of R6V2 on both systems from the first day that it was released.
It's just tough for me to take Sony's network seriously when I have been "spoiled" by Xbox Live over the past few years... that's all I am trying to say.
They must have confused their 4's with their 9's because this game is clearly a 9.5/10.
Oh well, it's not like I care what they think about the game. I enjoy it, and never have any problems, so I guess that's all that counts for individuals who bought the game.
I bet a good portion of the "missing rating points" is because it's exclusive to online play.
The game was announced like that and everyone knows so there shouldn't be a rating drop like that but IGN never makes any sense which is what makes me believe what I said above.
I found a good post on Socom.com and I agree with mostly every point made.
I really don't see how you guys like this game, but this is just in my general opinion.
Its nothing like the past Socoms, and that really depresses me.
If this game wasn't in a SOCOM box, I really wouldn't know what type of game it was and would have stopped playing it. I know you guys are going to just probably tell me to stop complaining and everything, but just read this and ask yourself, what would you change in this game? If it was supposed to be released last year, imagine what it would have been like then? Why did most of us pay so much money for a game that promised us things that aren't there? (Not to mention not even have a single player campaign to play when online is down...)

I just finished watching "Anatomy of a level: Urban Wasteland".
It seems to me that you (Slant 6) spent a hell of a lot of time and manpower on insignificant things, like the garbage and debris in the street or all of those inaccessible buildings off in the distance, or on making movies about making of the game.
It's really nice, only I don't get to appreciate it much due to the fact that instead of staring off into the distance to check out the clouds, I'm usually more concerned about whether or not the guy on the other team is down the hall or not. It dissapoints me that the reason why you've left so much out of the game is due to the fact that so much attention was wasted ambient level design, which honstly, isn't that fun to play.
I'd trade all of the propane tanks, inaccessible areas, and street litter for
-Tie Breaker Rounds
-11 Round Games
-Color-coded kill text
-The ability to play a ranked game of frostfire on something besides "elimination"
-Demo, Escort, Extract, Breach, and Supression Medleys
-An organized server list
-The ability to play Kasbah or Aftermath in a ranked medley
-Custom Taunts
-The old Quick 1/Quick 2 system
-A transparent scoreboard that doesn't lag/make me stop moving.
-The ability to make PW rooms
-Rockets that breach breaches.
-A brightness setting
-Menus that didn't take 10 seconds to load
-A way to turn off clan messages (I.e. "So-and-so has accepted the invitation, So-and-so has quit the clan)
-A way to delete "all messages" so that I don't have to delete them all one by one when my box fills due to clan messages.
-Ability to accept game invitation instantly when recieved.
-Functioning Auto-match, Party system, Clan Ladders, and Awards Pages
-Some official explanation of the rank structure.
-The ability to shoot through windows, railings, and mesh floors (I.e. the seal-side platforms in frostfire).
-No more strange black cloud in the first five seconds
-A bomb that doesnt magically teleport back to its point of orignination when dropped for 30 seconds.
-Ability to play ranked 10x10, 12x12, or 14x14 games
-Some kind of tutorial for the newbs....I'm getting sick of explaining to people what happens when the time runs out on control points, extracts, escorts. breaches. suppressions, and eliminations.
-I dont personally care about this but a lot of people wanted a single-player campaign, or online co-op like in Combined Assault.
But hey, at least you've managed to create some pretty levels that I'm currently un able to fully appreciate, because there is also no longer a "Free Camera" mode when spectating.
I was kind of shocked to watch X-Play's review of Confrontation the other night... not since the release of Deadliest Catch have I heard them rip into a game so badly. They pretty much say that you should save the money you'd spend on the game, and put it into a savings account within the first ten seconds of their review of the game. Ouch!!

LOL, that's really harsh. I think he says, "Anyone who's not a diehard SOCOM fan would rather shove ballpoint pens into their urethra rather than play this game longer than 10 min!"
Honestly...**** all the haters. I've had it for a little while now and this game is just as great as the rest of them. It has its flaws, but so does everything. I never really cared much for rank, anyway. The lag was simply because Sony didn't expect all the fans coming to play this game. If anything that tells you something about how active and awesome the fan base is. The fact that their massive, rabid fan base caused huge slowdowns is something people should be PROUD of IMO. And once all the problems are fixed (and they will because if they're releasing patches early on, unlike Zipper), nobody will complain.
At the end of a long hard day, I like to simply sit in front of my TV and immerse myself with the tension and adrenaline rush of SOCOM. I'm not the best player, and I'm probably nowhere near top-clan status, if I were even a part of one. But the fact that I'm still hooked, playing and enjoying it has got to mean something for this game. Just give it time.
Though I do miss the single player. Leaving that out was a big no-no on Slant Six's part.

Two systems for one reason only...Socom Confrontation and MGS4.
Flaws that could have easily been avoided by using all of the prior Socoms as a design starting point (organized servers, medleys, game invites, following friends, jumping and shooting, reload times, quick switch, score board, etc).

You're entitled to your own opinion, but that's just a poor excuse.
By no means should Sony have expected anything less than a tremendous number of people getting this game. At the very least they should have expected to have as many people as they did at the peak of Socom 3 or Combined Assault. If they were smart they would've looked at the number of pre-orders they had for the game.
Not having an adaquate system in place for a title that is online-only is just poor planning and inexcusable.
If they were smart they would've looked at the number of pre-orders they had for the game.
And then doubled or tripled that number to compensate for the amount of people who would get it without a pre-order. So what if that's more than is actually needed, at least they would have been prepared.

I honestly like socom too. It utilize the six axis accelerometer in the controller, and its real. I like it better than cod because the levels variations and the different variation of customer weaponry and the ecumberance. Its VERY real. and the proximity voice chat is so cool, thats why I whisper into the headset even while I'm talking to my clan mates. SOCOM I think is a very well made game. and URBAN WASTELAND is the best map in the game.
