I've never played any SOCOM game, and have never really been interested, but my manager is a huge SOCOM fan and keeps reminding me when Confrontation comes out and if I'm getting it.
I've played Call of Duty 4 (who hasn't?); is SOCOM anything like Modern Warfare? That's what it appears like to me, and I'm all for it, but I want something that will be much more tactical, as CoD4 was (yeah, "was" -- I don't play it anymore) nowhere near tactical, and team members simply went off on their own, although occasionally you'd get someone to stick around with you and become cooperative. My manager says it's very tactical, and that's definitely a plus if it's true.
I understand that this forum, at the very heart, is a SOCOM forum, so I know I'll get some accurate information. I'll listen to you guys. What's SOCOM like?
You can play SOCOM like CoD4, but you won't be very successful in anything other than respawns and Suppression/Elimination; but even those require some teamwork.

I was going to argue that, until I realized that I can't. It really is the closest thing; there is NO other game that replicates warfare like this one. You can die easily (but not instantly, ie someone spraying across the map will only injure you and not kill you), ambushes are often around every corner and will totally **** you up, accuracy is the most effective way to win (although in some situations you can get lucky by just spraying like crap), teamwork is vital, and if you look back at Socom II, they even had IED's all over the place! (PMN mines)
