Thats your opinion on what you think of the game. I highly doubt that you played the different games, so you will most definitely not like this game. Also, you know you can hit start and skip the cut-scenes if you are really that impatient.
It depends on whether Kojima made a wrong decision on choosing btw an " artistic Master-piece vs it's-for-everyone-entertainer ( shooter) " . He did know that he had to sacrifice the stealth-only aspect of the game for some typical shooter fare ,otherwise it's never gonna sell big . He had to take that step. Now, on the aesthetic level that this game is peculiarly known for, he had to make the next tough choice. At last, he decided on retaining the elements that made MG and him what it is, in the first place. This does alienate a minority of the people, but it's a choice he had to make. At the end of it ,at least he has that artist's satisfaction of sculpting the best possible master-piece that he could make out of it, and luckily the sales too came along with it.
So finally, did this game prove to be some master-piece ? Almost. On an aesthetic level, this series was always notches above the rest, and will be for the next 10 years ( unless Miyamoto.....) .
Was it among the games with the best gameplay ever ? No .... but it sure can raise some claims as many other games nowadays do.
Sales : It will manage to pack in close to 6million , overall. That's more than what kojima would have expected, seriously. Being an exclusive title, it makes it an awesome seller.
Did it make many people unsatisfied? Yes... Many loathed the cutscenes, the ending , the small shift from reality ( aliens are ok for them ) . Didnt you know this would happen, Kojima ?????? Ok, he doesnt care...
I am too hungover and in a bad mood to even bother trying to respond to this thread in a fair manner. I'd probably wind up saying something that I would regret and/or get into trouble over, so I'll let someone else give it a try.

I think it was alright. It could have been better if they would have spent half as much time on the game play as they did on the story line and cut scenes.

That's how MGS is and always have been so you can't complain too much about a game that has kept its ways which has always worked in the past.

thats true, but in this one it was more noticable than any MGS before it, which is why he mentioned it. I wouldnt have minded alittle more gameplay as well though.

I think it was more noticed because the gameplay itself was way better and the graphics and setting were amazing so I can understand that.
bleh, i pretty much found the gameplay unchanged but with a new camera angle, so it didnt blow me away. I think the two main reasons that the lack of gameplay is more noticable is because for the first time the game was being broken up into little stages, and the cutscenes. I dont think it was because the grphics were so amazing ?

The graphics were way better and at the time was probably the only PS3 game actually using its potential.

MGS4 has become the benchmark for which I compare PS3 games to in terms of graphics and utilizing the full potential of the system. Thus far, there hasn't been a single game that has surpassed it, in my opinion of course.
