From Gamers Day, its in early stages right now, thats why it looks really bad. But interesting nonetheless.

Nice find, zero... I'm sure this game will wind up shaping into something "better looking" in the next few months.

That's definitely Crossroads in the video.

I'll admit, I got a little bit of a Socom boner watching this and thinking about the old glory days.

But then I watched it again, and I said to myself "Hey, it's GRAW and RV6 mashed together".

It'll be interesting to see what all features it'll have. What all it promises and then fails to deliver. I see the camera's changed to favor more of an over the should view. It looks a lot like the Unreal 3 engine. I wonder why it's being done by a different developer? SCEA finally realized that Zipper couldn't get it right?

And didn't that feel just like a slap in the face, bringing you back into reality very quickly???

I know it felt like that to me...

I know it felt like that to me...
It was sobering, I'll tell you that. Especially considering that I've said all along that only a great Socom would get me to buy a PS3.

I know you can't be too judgemental about one video, and I'm not trying to sound like a hater here, but I'm just not seeing anything revolutionary yet.

I mean, it's reported to be multiplayer only (so I'm assuming there is no story/single player mode), and that tells me a good bit right there. They show what is largely the most loved map ever in the video, that tells me another good bit. It appears they're using the same engine that everyone else is using lately (which isn't exactly bad), and that tells me some more.

My prediction is that this'll end up being the Greatest Hits of Socom. All the classic maps will be there. Hell, probably every map will be there. And it'll all be updated for 1080-nextgen-sixaxis-sony goodness.

Again, I'm interested to see how this unfolds, but I'm skeptical.

I'm curious what Nun and Bob's take will be..

I believe that's what they're aiming for.
When Socom 2 was released I was just blown away because it was my first online MP game that I ever played other than Diablo for the PC. Gaming changed forever for me, especially with the use of the headset. If it's a polished Next-Gen Greatest Hits game..I'm down. But I have no doubt that I wont dedicate all of my time to just 1 Game for a long period of time anymore.
With Next-Gen titles there's just so much to play, see and look forward too. When Socom 2 came out I was burnt-out with PS2 titles in general anyway and Socom was refreshing.
It usually takes just 1 killer game title for me to go out and buy a system. In the 360's case it was Dead Rising. When Socom: Confrontation comes out it will probably make PS3 sales go through the roof. But I don't think it will give everybody the Fire in the Loins like it used to. I have to admit playing a new revitalized Crossroads , Fishook etc etc etc...would be fun & interesting, especially playing with the peeps that I used to roll with on Socom all the time. Hopefully they drop the Mister Rogers approach and bring back the blood and call the opposing side Terrorists and not Mercanaries. It probably wouldn't come close to the buckets of blood that's all over the walls on R6V though.

One Final Note: At least with this version of Socom, updates, news, extras, and downloads should be consistant and with the addition of Home added to the mix means it would never be as bad as it used to be during Depression Era Socom. At least we can also quit calling it Socom 4

Well, I've got some interesting news...sorta.

I called SCEA a week ago and left a message on their machine asking if their interested in socom4.com. Today, They called me and we talked about it. But once we started talking about the $$ amount, they seemed to back away.

Respectfully, they couldnt confirm to me yes or no if a Socom 4 would ever be released. But since they were interested....it makes you think..

They seemed like cool cats over there, I guess the price was just a tad too high.

You should trade that HD monitor in for a working keyboard and a good dictionary. Ugh, what do they teach you kids today?

They're probably waiting for you to call back, willing to take whatever offer they get out of the vending machine.

I'd settle for a nice summer vacation.

Well OME6A you're right it is only multiplayer only and it was Crossroads shown. Also it is being developed by not Zipper, but by a Vancouver based studio called Slant Six.

It is still 32 player combat, but it will be a lot more smaller and from Seth Lusi's mouth "more intimate". He also went on to say that there will be no vehicles and that the game will be going back to its roots.

All of this sounds fantastic and I am sure that I will buy a PS3 now when I hear a **** load more about this.

BTW here's a preview from 1UP.com that is fantastic. I recomend you to go check it out.

SOCOM Confrontation PS3 Preview, SOCOM Confrontation Playstation 3 Preview

EDIT: It will only ship with five maps all based on the North Africa area operation and it will updates constantly.

Clans will be able to make their own uniform for clan matches and individual players will be able to change any aspect of their character.

I seriously cannot wait!!!!!!!!

That's one major improvement that was sorely needed

Definately, we as the Socom Community needed some sort of customization and it's great to hear that clans will pretty much have their own uniforms and emblems.

That sounds pretty awesome.

I'm getting a bit more interested in this, getting that Socom itch that I'm sure we all know too well.

There's a few things that concern me though. For starters it only comes with 5 maps, and is reliant on periodic updates and DLC. When was map pack #2 supposed to come out? That's what I thought.

Secondly, all this talk about smaller, more confined and detailed environments that are reminiscent of S1 & S2. That's all fine and good, but they're going to cram 32 people into them? It gives me flashbacks of Citadel and Bitter Jungle when I think of what it'll be like with 32 people on a small map.

It's still pretty exciting and promising so far.

Well now that it is headed by a new developer I bet that DLC comes out "On-Time" and "Polished". Those are two things Zipper did not do well, but hopefully that will change with Slant Six.

Also the 5 maps are probaly Fish Hook, Sandstorm, Crossroads, New Map, New Map. Looking back I remember playing all three of those known maps more than any other Socom map so I think the hardcore fans will be set for the first few months.

The maps I believe will not be a problem, if they do it right everything will be great, and they're only five months into development so they have a ways to go.
