~sniping Tips And Tactics Of Socom 3~

This thread has been combined with indexing and QSing with the general SNiping thread to reduce clutter. Enjoy.~erg
************************************************** **********

Even though i have only been playing this game a few days, i have found these to be the best methods:

-More people running around means youre more likely to get caught proning in the grass some where. But with more people, there is a higher chance that they are stupid, and will search high spots and hilltops. Learn to snipe from inside buildings, around corners and even in a open field (if you have a giullie suit)

-Proneing with that M87 or M82 may make it steadier, but it makes you alot more vulnerable to attack. Learn to snipe with a bobby scope, and get used to leading targets. Speaking of which....

-When trying to kill vehicle whores, always take out the driver first. If you take out the gunner or passenger first, then the driver or another passenger might notice where your shooting from.

-Pick and choose your shots. If two guys are at the foot of a cliff opposite you, don't try to take both of them out unless you have backup or a semi-auto sniper rifle (SASR or the SR-25)

-Know when to use a high scope and a low scope. In terrain maps that are medium in size, i use a 4x scope to snipe quickly. In big maps, take out that 12x scope and get FAR from the action.

-The SASR and SR-25 are a snipers best friends. Now that the SASR can be scilenced, it opens up a whole new field in terr. sniping. Use this to your advantage. Another benifit is that they are lighter then the other rifles, thus alowing you to carry more equipment with your. The M87 and M82 are OSOKs (One Shot, One Kill), but they are extreemly heavy, almost forcing you to drop your nades and pistol attachment

Please add to this thread. This is all i can think of for now. Enjoy! :D

Nice tactics otakucon87, it prety much wat i do. Its is alot more open fielded than socom 2 and you got 16 people to kill rather than 8 so its more sniper oprotunity :P . And everyone has diff styles of playing the game. If you want to take the time and get the ghillie suits then do it there worth it plus you get more stuff like scopes and hand grips realy cool for better acuracy :o . My sniper tatics depend on the size of the field, if its a smaller map ill us a RA-14 with silencer and medium scope(one of the unlockable scopes). With the ghillie suit proneing is your best friend(in the bushes at least) It best to leave it on auto an just tap the triger aim for the chest and shoot a burst you should hit him in the head if not he's wonded. And the most tipical person will try to find were it came from so theres your next oprotunity to take him out. For medium to large maps I actually use a sniper rifle. I like useing that new sniper rifle the L98w or somethin like that anyways i use that gun, bipod, and medium scope, or high scope. And prety much do wat otakucon87 does shooting the driver that will stop the it and the other guys usually take a copule of seconds to rellize wat just happened so you schould be able to get the gunner since he sicks out. It really helps if you know the map well. Well those are some adition to your tactics that i use in play. Overall if you wanna snipe and hide well I highly sugest get the ghillie suit.

my tip is to snipe with an assault rifle. my clan and i have had great sucess using the m14 with high/thermal scope and bipod, the m8 with bipod and high/thermal, or any other rifle with a low scope. it snice because you get allt he cool parts of a sniper, and use the sneaky tactics, but have a full auto rifle to mow them down if they come in too close.

1. What is the new sniper rifle like
2. Is the SASR now a 2 shot kill like the SR-25 or is it still 3 shots

Im a UK gamer so socom 3 is a long way away for me

I recommend learning how to jump around and snipe (quick snipe). It's much easier on SOCOM 3, and is extremely useful when an assualt rifle is coming at you. With the low accuracy (or skill, depending on who it is) of the guns/people, jumping around and sniping can help you live.

What I do:

Equip an M87ER or M82A1A
attach a Bipod and 12x OR High Scope
Get whichever pistol you want, with no attachments.
No grenades, extra ammo, claymores, etc. That way you'll be able to run and jump with ease and speed.

I usually go prone and snipe until I see a threat coming towards me fast, then jump around and try to snipe him. So far, I've probably gotten about 75% of the people who have rushed at me with assault rifles.

Another helpful tip - if you find yourself within feet of an enemy, and you have your sniper rifle out, open scoping is actually very effective in S3. I've killed 3 people, open scope, in a row in a few games.

These are more of recommendations for you to try than they are tips, but they've proven very useful to me. Knowing how to snipe while in a tight situation along with sniping while prone can allow you to be a valuable asset to your team.

Yeah, the revamped M14 is by far my favourite sniper now! I love it! It's a bit of a weak gun for sniper standards, but you can get the big scopes for it, enabling you to stay farther away from the battle. Also, having the automatic mode allows for me to equip a lighter pistol and shed it's attachments (since I won't need to switch to it), and therefore carry better equipment.
My tip for sniping-
Try out the M14, but DONT act like it's socom 2. If you treat it like an assault rifle that can snipe, you'll fail. Treat it like a sniper that can be auto, and you can be great with it.

PS- I also find that, contrary to the sniping from S2, it is much more worth the trouble to go for headshots, as most of the snipers are weaker, but with big scopes and good hiding spots, the enemies won't have time to find you if you want to wait for the perfect shot.

It is extremely accurate, much like the M40, but not as powerful as the M87 or 82. It takes usually two shots anywhere but the head, neck, or high chest area.

Yes, they've finally made it 2 shot kill like it's SEAL counterpart. It's my new favourite terr. sniper because it can be silenced, plus it shoots quick and now you can put much bigger scopes on it :)

I guess the best sniping tips would be...

-find a suitable position that is either a commonly used long straightaway or a big open field. The straightaways, such as bridges, etc., are great because you don't have to lead the enemy. As long as you are far enough away and you are using a high or 12X scope, you will see them long before they see you. I sniped a good 10-20 people wearing a ghillie suit in a blackwoods respawn. I was laying down in a train cart sniping the bridge while enemies ran all around me fighting the seals and I just took my time. Big open fields are great because you have a large area to use and you can calm down and prepare for the shot.

-get the ghillie suits! when you use them appropriately, enemies will walk right over you. Plus, ghillie suits can be used not only for sniping, but also for camping, and just good camoflauge. WARNING: you have to be ready to run light, because the ghillie suit takes up 1 equipment space and adds a good bit of weight to you.

-like others said, assault rifles are awesome! I highly recommend the m14 (bipod/scope) or the M16 (scope/?) since both are very accurate and can be used to defend yourself easily. Also, they are both good counter-sniper weapons, since you can either be accurate, or overwhelming with your gun.

-know where your friends are! If you have a few other snipers on your team, you can dominate the map. On Storm Front, I was sniping along with many of the seals on my team. We dominated the terrorists because we would snipe them long before they reached us. It was mainly due to their stupidity though, because they kept running out in the open.

-To be honest, I'm not a fan of quick sniping. I believe it takes away from the feeling of being a true sniper. I suggest that you just become experienced enough that you can hit someone while being fired at or not. Quick snipe if you want, but its uneeded effort in my opinion. Since most of the guns are inaccurate on full auto at range, just take your time and get the shot. The one thing these people have up on you is fire rate, so make it count. If they clip you once or twice, they are still dead aren't they? Also, being good sniping with a bobbing scope was good advice as well, but if you wait a second or two, your scope stops moving even when crouching or standing.

-Always pick a scope lol. Snipers have the widest shot margin of any gun out of scope, so I recommend scopes.

(This is from my Sniping Help post).

Every sniper knows that when you snipe someone in the body without M87ELR or M82A1A (cheap snipers) it only takes about half health then the victim hides behind a rock, tree, small fence, etc. Then you can't get a shot on him, do one of the following:

1. Shoot around the object the SEAL or Terrorist is hiding behind. (Not on it or that might reveal your position).

2. Get a fellow sniper to snipe him if he is at a different position then you. (I recommend that you get a spotter or a sniper partner).

3. If your close enough or high enough throw a grenade. (not recommended).

4. Just wait if your a true sniper.

Note: It is recommended that you use a suppresed or a non-loud sniper rifle.

well i like to use l96aw otherwist known as an awp for u cs fans due to the fact that it has less load then the m87,m82 while still having verynice stopping power with bipods verylittle recoil even in the crouch and stand comparatively also has the full selection of scopes unlike the m40 and the semiautosnipers making it a great choice

i like to carry a model 18 SD so that i can at least begin to compete in short range auto fire spray with an auto rifle toting seal. if i have to. this gun is almost like an HK at urban combat ranges. wicked uncontrollable spray, that is, mass accidental headshots.

I think the medium scope is worth it. ( I know it goes on the M14 and Ak47, they were the only guns I tried out last night.) You see the med scope is 3x's and 8x's.

Try playing around with claymores. There funny as hell to use too. :D Usualy when sniping with the ghille suit, people run right over you or by you. So the other night I set up a claymore behind me(facing me, but with some distance between us). The guy was running towards my direction. So when he passed me I hit the switch. and boom. The thing was I didn't place it far away enough. So I was knocked out for a coulpe seconds.
