I cannot play a turn based style.. like old school final fantasy... it's kept me out of the game for years... It's like a Laugh Track on a new sit-com. I have tried multiple times, but I just end up turning it off or trying to talk over the show and have a convo with whoever i'm sitting with...

Of course a good story and good characters is a must. As far as rpg style, I like both turn based and real time. But I have a slight leaning toward turn based.

If Fallout is considered an RPG then that - Real time. If it's not, I hate all RPGs.

I'm gonna have to go MAINLY with "A good storyline and good characters are all that matters". I've never really been one to play video games for the battle system, although it does make it difficult if it's designed terribly, but I will still play and love it if the plot is developed well and the characters grow.

I'll go with "A good storyline and good characters is all that matters" and the rpg mechanic/battlesystems second. I can tolerate medicore/bad rpg mechanics as long as the story and characters are good enough.

I wouldn't put skyrim and WoW in the same catagory either though.. They are so different in how you play.

But I do LOVE skyrim, and the small amount of time I spent on a free server in WoW was quite fun. but the fun in that game is completely dependent on having friends to play with... I never got around to meeting friends in the game, but whenever I played by myself I found it pretty boring. But when my friends from work played it could be a blast.

I like any RPG that allows real time combat mechanics, or close to real time (Like Skyrim and Fallout being able to pause somewhat and gear up or down potions is nice) But I really dislike turn based... and when you control more than one player... I want to play a role, not 4 roles...
