"U" Not "You"
Does anybody find the use of the letter "u" instead of typing "you" annoying? How about "r" instead of are? Does shortening those words really save much time? I imagine if you don't have time to type two more letters then it's probably not a good time to be messaging. I avoid "u" and "r" even when phone messaging.

I've never wanted to use txt tlk. If you stick at it correct spelling on a phone keypad you will get to the super efficient level of other texters only a little bit later.

I do that some times on a text message. I see your point but i don't think it's that big of a deal. People that i send a message too know im far from illiterate. If it did bother somebody though i would spell the words out.

I'm always in the habit of typing out my words and using proper grammar, so I've never really used "text talk." I always re-read my text messages to make sure they make sense (which may seem weird, but like I said, I have a habit of re-reading everything) and to be sure I avoid any sort of abbreviations.

I always type out words and use correct punctuation and grammar when I'm texting someone.

When I started playing online flash games and got a lot of MSN contacts, I always used text talk.

I eventually stopped using it because I was carrying it over to my school work.

Even in phone texts, I spell the words out. All my friends think it's weird, but anyone who needs to shorten a two letter word ('to') down to a single number ('2') has patience problems.

Shortening a word by one letter is taking the speed state of mind too far. I'll use real abbreviations and acronyms or well known ones but avoid things like "IYKWIM".

Same with me.

Usually if someone text's me and they use "u" and "r" I don't text them back:

1.) It makes me feel stupid just reading it
2.) If I text them back that means I'm going to get the same crap over, and over again.

My original post was going to be something like that. I thought many people on these forums would give scathing responses. I do feel stupid just reading a "txt tlk" message. I maintain self-control and not reply in a way that basically calls them an idiot without them realizing it.

Honestly , i think its alittle superficial to target and put a brand on people that use a harmless thing like "txt" speak on an electronic medium. Remember its only the internet, no one is here writing an essay for english class, or trying to pass anything off as official bible text. So just becuse someone says U instead of you, it doesnt automatically make you any smarter, so i dont see the point in complaining about it.

I also find it wierd that out of all the annoying ****ing things people do on the internet, like LOLspeak, 1337 speak, and SpEaKiNg LiKe ThIS, you choose txt speak. Now those are the real culprits of the degradation of the internet. W00t should not be in the dictionary.
