Have you tried M.u.g.e.n?

Mugen was a fighting game engine made by elecbyte (now AWOL) that basically let any user make thier own character from scratch, or rip some existing sprites and tailor it to thier liking for some homeade, yet authentic, 2-D fighting action. I was just wondering how many people here have actually used this before, or are looking to get into it. Becuse now i have little work to do for the month, and i would gladly get people into it if they wanted. I was thinking of maybe starting a group were i could post things and teach people how to use mugen if enough people were interested.

Ive posted some pics of my game. I only started this new game a few weeks ago so its still infantile. Still, check it out.

The characters arent made by me, im just especially good at picking out the best chars and stages BGM, etc. and putting it into one package. Again its still not complete as all i have are characters at the moment.

As a programmer, an artist, and a dork, this has always interested me. However, in the interest of me not spending weeks in my basement working on the ultimate match-up of Jesus vs GoPre, I never actually touched it.

yea it does take up alot of time.... if you create characters. When i was in a freshman in highschool i used to rip street fighter characters, but now i just make ultimate games made up of th best characters avalible. I can get a full game put together in about 3 afternoons. One for characters, the other for stages, and the other for music/sound effects. Im just a hardcore fighting game junkie.to tell you the truth i dont know if my pics even do the gmae justice, it looks alittle crusty around the edges since i just threw the characters in.

Can you play the games with out the Mugen software?

I should look into the charater maker and make some vgf characters. Do myself with a beard that can attack people. Do Pre, causeing frogs and locust to rain down on enemies.

Well no, basically mugen is just a simple executable. all you do is add your character (with all its data) music and stages into folders, and just edit the config file in notepad. Once you do that, the mugen executable will have everything in it that you specified, and look like a real game. Luckily to make a game you dont need any programming experience since there are directions in the config files like "insert character name here" and things like that, so its very easy.

Programming your own character gets simple enough also, you just make your graphics and sounds for your character, and put them on a model, and edit it until you get your character right.

To be honest, I sort of wanted to hear what he thinks is the best...I can google all day long, but some times you get better sites from people that have been around the topic longer.
