I dont watch rugby or hockey regularly but I have seen plenty of games. My decision is rugby. I just feel like it takes more out of you and is constant non-stop. It is definitely more vicious than football, because it isn't play-by-play, it's one giant game. But I also feel that it takes more out of you than hockey, because there is also constant tackling and running, etc.

I knew what you were saying, England, but what makes rugby have these effects and not hockey?

Craig MacDonald was the player hit in the mouth.

I also agree that hockey is one of the toughest sports skill wise to play, but that's another topic for another thread.

My opinion isn't necessarily biased. I have played (and still watch) both hockey and football. I like hockey more for these reasons I'm listing, that's all.

Another thing with the pads issue...

You can find countless hits where the player is completely destroyed and they are still wearing pads. You never see that in rugby.

Hockey is a consatant physical game, too. Not to mention, you are traveling three times as fast and have to constantly switch from playing offense to defense.

I will admit, Hockey is easily one of (if not the) toughest (skill-wise) games out there.

I would have said American football take smore skill because of all the plays, downs, whatever they are called. But that is just because I have never taken a big enough interest to learn about the rules of the game.

I can definately understand how a player can get severely hurt even with pads, but I just think there is less chance (although statistically more) to get injured when wearing them. I suppose you could say that if a player gets hurt more in hockey even when wearing the pads, then the hits are harder.

I have always wanted to play hockey, my city has one of the best teams (and training schemes) in the country but that isn't much of an acheivement since hockey isn't too big here. I think one of my "long lost" friends has started playing hockey but I can't seem to get in contact with him. If I ever get a job and some cash, I will start going to games even if it's only for the fights. << Funniest fight I have seen the local team involved in

I hate Hockey but I would have to say its the toughest because its all out on the ice until you get back on the bench. Football is a brutal sport but but the plays last only 20 seconds at most then there is a minute to catch your breath. Hockey is just brutal endurance.

Plays are very easy. Each player is assigned a specific job. Not hard to do. In hockey, however, the plays require constant movement. Football, a play lasts six seconds. In hockey, they will last for days. Plus, possesion can change in an instant and continue. Football, it may change a couple times in a game, where as in hockey, it WILL change countless times.

Show me proof more rugby players have been injured from a hit. In hockey, the hits are much harder. I guess someone wouldn't understand if they've never played it.

It's not for everyone, but I would encourage it. It's a great sport. I still don't understand how rugby can even compare, especially when hockey ALLOWS fighting. Bench clearing brawls like that happen quite often, too.

That's over exaggerating with the play time. Not to mention, hockey seasons have 82 games, with seven game playoff rounds. A football team only plays a fraction of that, even if they go all the way.

I'd have to say other. Something like cross country, or swimming. I know kids who do both, and are in much better shape than our school's hockey players or football players.

I wouldn't say they are necessarily tougher sports, but the people could be tougher. The most jacked high school kid I knew was an intense swimmer. This kid looked like he was on roids though.

You mean the reasons I proved wrong?

That is irrelevant. There is no contact in those sports. Even so, your school means nothing on a pro level.
