Jimdalf, I understand your position. But I disagree. See, you've experienced much more than I ever have, and I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm simply saying that I think that being a grunt, on the field, with little-no body armor, exposed to enemy fire, with not much cover, but plenty of concealement....
Is hard.

I think what Jim was saying, is that no matter what branch you join, it'll have a chance of getting your butt killed/hurt. No dought about it, a "grunt" has more of a chance than others. I had my brush with death, down in the fireroom of the Essax class carrier, that I served on. Steam, and all that. Two of my close friends, got Purple Hearts over in Nam, serving in the Army. And another joined the Marines, and died over there. And a third, in the Army, didn't serve over there.
So anyway, no matter what branch you served, are serving, or will serve in, I thank you!!!

Well yeah, we in the infantry get into some pretty bad positions occassionally but there are advantages to being a land lubber... antiship missiles are nasty pieces of work, fires on board ship are horrendous and at the end of the day the sea is not a nice place at all... land sea or air the military is a dangerous profession but I don't like how many percieve the navy as the choice of those who want to serve at minimum risk to themselves because it really isn't... right up to the modern day the navy has had just as many casualties as teh army or marines (Waterloo and Trafalgar were both bloodbaths on land and sea respectively, Tarawa saw the sands turn red but just as many if not more died when a carrier went down a week later, and during the Falklands more British servicemen were killed at sea than on the islands themselves)

I joined the Canadian Forces Reserves and am making an assload of cash from it. 77 bucks a day for the win, eh?
Anywho, despite the rolling in cash, the best part is, I get to shoot **** with a C7, the 1337est rifle I've ever seen.
Hope to serve with some fellow canucks from here someday, though I doubt it unless Awter moves in with me

Dude. You get virtually a few hours of indoor training, then get to pretty much shoot and blow **** up. Depending on how long you've been in, though...idk.
Our "Platoon" (actually a regiment) went to a paintball arena in ottawa and dominated everyone though

ARMY, If I did end up joining the armed forces it would be the ARMY. I couldnt see myself in any other uniform.

Well for me, it is either going to be Air Force or Navy. I am going to be entering into one of them after I graduate college. I have already sent off both my AFROTC and NROTC scholarship applications. I will do whichever one gives me the scholarship(hopefully). I will proudly serve my country as best I can. And for the record, if I had a choice, I believe I would choose the Air Force as the ocean is not really my friend.
