MAN!!!!That first game was awesome. Germany won 4-2. All the goals on the german side were awesome especially Lahm's and Fring's. The ticos got 2 goals from Wanchope but it looked like he was offside on one. Ecuador beat Poland 2-0. Excellent start to the 2006 World Cup!

That first game was great. The German's first goal was the second fastest World Cup goal, the only one scored quicker was in the Argentina - Scotland game in World Cup '98.

All the goals were great although the first half had a few calls that were a little unfair. Like when the linesman kept saying Costa Rica was offside, obviously in the second half the calls were totally fair as usual. It seems that the officials always try to show their power in the first half more, that might be just my overview though.

I didnt watch the Ecuador game, I kinda fell asleep watching good ol' English television while waiting for it to start.

I will be getting up bright and early for the England game tommorow morning though, my step Dad has decided to leave me at home while he goes to his mates house to watch it on his 40-something inch TV with total surround sound and i get stuck with a 30-something inch TV with a sorround sound that only works for the DVD player.

Once again, I have my flags up, I am going to move my big flag to somewhere more noticeable (prefferably in the middle of the road with a few traffic cones around it.) and also print a few flags off just to annoy the neighbors. I dont usuaully do this, its just I am still getting asked if I am English so hopefully this will either tell everyone I am, or just look like a cry for help.

Wish England good luck everyone... or else

The England - Paraguay game just finished, ENGLAND WON.

Beckham had a free kick just before the end of the first 10 minutes where he went for the goal but it was actually deflected in by a player from Paraguay, deeming it an own-goal. I also believe that player was the team captain unless I was getting confused with the commentary as Beckham is our team captain and they might have talking about him, Im not sure.

I think they also said its the first ever World Cup game where it has been decided by an own goal and finished 1-0. Also it had the fasest gaolie substitution since I think the 1990 World Cup. The England goal, despite it been an own goal from Paraguay, was the second fastest goal scored by England in a World Cup game, I am not sure if its the second fastest ever or second fasest since a certain date though.

Over all it was a good game, Crouch and anoth player of England both got yellow cards, mainly because Crouch is 6ft 7in so he tends to be a bit clumsy. Also a player from Paraguay got a yellow card, I think that one was because of a hard tackle on David Beckham.

Final Score: England 1 - 0 Paraguay.

Good game made great by the fact that England won, Trinadad & Tobago against Sweden later today on ESPN 2 I think, should be also a good game but doubt I will watch it. I only watch the 2 most popular team out of a group.

PS: Did I spell Paraguay right at all in that post? Dont even know if i did or not.

horrible game
I just watched it and it was a horrible game. The Paraguay team were cowards. They would tackle england so hard and then when an english player poked them they would go down and cry... One dude took a shot, then watched, and then he just fell and started wining... What a loser. Football (soccer) is not for cowards.

Even though England won, you gotta admit they did not play well. Bad crossing and they just played to cautiously, where the goal differencial might come back to haunt them... David Beckam might have got the cross where the other team own-goaled it, but he did not play much better for the rest of the game.

Portugal! Portugal! Portugal! Portugal! Portugal! Portugal! Portugal!

I agree. Even though it was an English victory, the team wasn't playing very well. It seemed as if they were each trying to do things on their own while we know that in soccer you MUST depend on your team. Anyways, the English team really needs to collect themselves or they won't last long.

I've never been that involved in Soccer, but I recently made a bet with am English friend of mine; Sweden will remain in longer than Englad.

If you couldn't tell by my sig, I'm rooting for Sweden, yet America will slaughter everyone.

Yea, the game wasnt even nearly the best performance of England. But its their first game, one of our best playres was on the bench and overall i just dont think they had their minds on the game. They expected an easy win and didnt get it.

One of the announcers said something like 'they need 11 balls out there' basically meaning they were al trying to do smething different which was a bad idea from the start. Usually they are a stonger team and work better together, even our best potential goal scoreres kept hitting it wide or way over. They just iddnt have their mid on the game at all, I still think it was a good game but if they continue performing like that, I think they will prove everyone and themselves wrong and wont even get out of the group stages.

It has been said many time that England has one of, if not the best midfield in the world. I can understand where that comes from but looking at them today, it didnt really give them reason to say that. The midfield was strong but the strikers were all over the place (sometimes back in midfield during an attack), and the defenders were pretty good today, it has to be said that our goalie was the best player of the team today though. But thats just my opinion.

Hopefully their next game will be much better.

USA plays on Monday so we will see if they live upto expectations, on a Road Runner poll, it was shown that 36% of the voters think that the USA will win. I doubt they will win but if England didnt perform well today, its easy for the USA team to out perform themselves and they might even do pretty damn good.

Well, Sweden tied with Trinidad and Tobago... not much more I need to say even thought they played a better game. America will slaughter everyone? They are in a group with Italy and Czech Republic. Slaughter? No, they will be slaughtered.

And yeah I heard the commentator say they need 11 balls, i laughed when they said it because it was sort of true.
