The advertising here in Germany is disgusting...
I probably won't be watching because I'm here, and I'm already sick of soccer/football/fußball due to the extreme advertising everywhere. Every TV show has some form of soccer related content. Every product in every store has soccer crap all over it.. Prices are up, tourists are up, and it's just going to get worse and worse.
Luckily I don't live in München, otherwise it'd be really bad. It reminds me of the time I lived in Oberammergau during the Passions Spiel (Passion Play, it's a religious play put on once every ten years). Apparently people come from all over the world to see it, and Oberammergau is a tiny little town that all the sudden gets a population of a city, and it's nothing but tourists... It's horrible.
As for who I want to win.. I'm not sure if it'll be worse if Germany wins or loses. If Turkey were to make it farther than Germany there would be a lot of fights in bars, etc... Of course, the other way it'd probably be the same, too. Actually, I think Germany's largest "rivalries" are with Holland, Turkey, and maybe England, but I'm not entirely certain on that one. This is only what I see from personal experience (I know the Germans generally hate the Dutch, and definitely the Turkish).
Should be interesting times. I can't wait to see people running and driving around with flags all over yet again.

England is definitely one of Germany's rivals. Germany should do good because to me I think they are one of the top 3 teams in the world. The others being Brazil and Italy. Just my opinion.

Well, the reason I said I wasn't sure is because I don't know that many Germans that talk about England to the extent they talk about hating the Dutch.
By rivals I didn't mean teams that traditionally rival Germany's team. I meant people that the German populous themselves feel a necessity to rival with.
Go Germany!

No offense to anyone that likes soccer ( football ) but it needs to be put to bed.
Racism, Assasinations , Death Threats, Molitove Cocktails, Bags Of Urine thrown, Bags of feces thrown at players, Death to America Chanting,
To me its just like some rowdy concert festival ( see Woodstock 2000 ) When things are being burned , chicks are getting raped , basically animalistic crowd behaviour, it ruins what your there for in the first place. I know its not all the fans but it's a good majority.
Once again no offense to anyone , but alot of the fans need to check themselves.

I've never thrown urine at anyone and I've never had to throw anyone out of a game for it.

I will be watching it until England go out, and I will savour that moment... its always nice to see the english lose
Dk... the advertising is feckin atrocious in the UK too! 4 out of 5 adverts are world cup related, and if I hear one more story about ronney's (think shrek on a football pitch... no, uglier) broken foot I will explode
So long as argentina don't win... I don't like the argentines, they are the only country worse than england!

Just wondering, do people in the USA really support the USA team? I ask this because where I live (Florida) I have seen about 30 England flags on cars just this week, I havent seen any extra USA flags. Obviously we see the USA flag out alot just because the US is vert patriotic but in England, the flags go out and everyone gets saved up to go get drunk while watching the World Cup, I havent seen anything like this over here.
I havent even seen the USA team on the advertising over here, its all been England and all the other countries.
On the topic of Shrek's foot, its doing my head in also. I cant even think what its like for you people still in England. We hear about it nearly every day on the international news channels (CNN, etc) I cant wait until it all starts and everyone will then just have their heads stuck to the TV for a month.
Well, I have my 2 England flags up right now. I just need a few to put on the cars and thats enough. I am just glad that all my English friends live pretty far away, Im not used to the crowds anymore.

Well, I am from the USA and I passionately hope that they get knocked out early. They have absolutely no business with football. It's just not our thing. The only real reason we get to the World Cup is that the groups we play in really suck. Anyways, I will be watching every game I can. I hope that either Germany, Holland or the Czech Republic wins. I also hope that Brazil loses as i am tired of them winning. Give someone else a chance........anyways thats my little rant.

i want the us to do good, but i dont see them getting out of their group. i dont really like england all too much even though they got a good team. im leaning towards france to make a good run at the cup this year. oh and to answer the quesiton about the us support: i support the us naitonal team very much. i, as do many others, do not think that they will get out of a group with italy ans the czech republic in them. they are proven teams unlike the united states. i know they were once ranked #4 in the world earlier on this year. thats a load of **** theres no way they should even be in the top 10. fifa was just being too generous

Soccer isn't exactlly popular in America, whereas anyone from Europe is most likely a nationalistic fanatic when it comes to the game so you'll see plenty of foreign flags. I don't remember seeing any commercials for the World Cup. Truth be told I wouldn't have known had you not posted it. I know the US team is bad but in their defense they did play an amazing game against Germany last Cup. That was one of the best games of that WC in my opinion. I was a bit upset because they should have won although Germany advanced (Germany is my secondary team) so it wasn't a total loss. I hope Brazil and Italy go down early because I'm tired of seeing them win all the time.... Bastards.
