Playstation 3 Hardware / Media / OnlineDiscuss general aspects of the PS2 or PS3 and their respective online experiences. Including hardware & media devices. PS3 Exclusive Games could be discussed below.
Look at some of the best looking (graphically) exclusive games on the PS3. Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted 1/2, Ratchet and Clank, Killzone 2, Valkyrie Chronicles, Resistance 1/2, Gran Turismo Prologue/GT5, MLB 09 The Show.
So....which ones "left behind story (for those that should have story, not sports or racing games) and gameplay"?
Killzone 2. But to be fair that's really it. inFamous would help the cause btw, that was ace on so many levels.
do they have the technology to make it slimer or smaller?
Most likely.
The Blu-ray drive they use in the PS3 was one of the first, so it is quite large. About the thickness of a normal DVD drive for a computer. Since then, Sony has developed and produced several very thin blu-ray drives, most of them for laptops, but they can be made to do the same thing for the PS3.
They have already shrunk the size of the chips, which produce less heat, but they are doing another shrink here pretty soon. Or it might have already happened, I am not sure.
Those are the only things that need to be changed to produce a slim PS3. The only things that are really all that tall in the PS3 are the fans and heatsinks (which can be made smaller if chips produce less heat), and the Blu-ray drive.
The only downside is that the internal power supply will most likely have to be external if they make a PS3 slim.
Plus, in an interview with Jack Tretton from Gametrailers, summing up what he said, he stated that the PS3 will have a similar evolution in hardware as their past consoles (slim), but did not confirm if the pictures in question are real. He said, "I personally have not seen the pictures, but I know a lot of great knockoffs come out of China".

He didn't say they're small now, he said they can be made smaller. I personally like having one gigantic fan on the bottom forcing all the hot air up and out, as opposed to many small fans that suck ass and cuz faulty systems and poor sauders (see XBOX)
I'd buy it, i still dont have a ps3 so i think i might wait till an official announcement, im assuming it will probably be released around the same time as the wii HD

PS3 Slim, price cut due this fall, Xbox 360 Elite replacing Pro in September?
Source: Tech and gaming news site Ars Technica.
What we heard: Sony has drawn flack for the PlayStation 3's sticker tag from the moment the top-tier console's $599 price was announced in 2006. And while Sony has released an array of hardware configurations to bring down the price, the PS3 consistently scores the bronze in the US' three-way current-generation console race. Last week, Activision ratcheted the price war rhetoric up a notch, threatening to drop support for the PS3 and PSP as early as 2010 if Sony doesn't enact a price reduction for its flagship console. Currently, the cheapest PS3 hardware SKU is the 80GB model, which was introduced during E3 2008.
Analysts and publishers alike believe Sony will eventually cut the PS3's price sometime during the back half of the year, though the same could be said of 2008. This time, though, industry watchers may be right, as Ars Technica's reliable tipster has informed the tech news site that Sony will cut the PS3's price as well as introduce the 120GB PS3 Slim this fall.
Ars Technica's source had no specific information on how much the consoles will cost or whether or not Sony will alter its SKU offerings. However, the source did say that Sony is currently in the process of flooding retail with the 160GB PS3 SKU, while at the same time limiting supply of the 80GB model. The source noted that most retailers have about a 60-day supply of the 80GB model left in stock.
Were Sony to proceed with a price cut, the console maker's newfound competitiveness may be short-lived. Ars Technica's source notes that Microsoft may respond to a PS3 price cut with a SKU jiggering of its own. According to the tipster, Microsoft plans to phase out the midlevel $299 Xbox 360 Pro in July or August, with the publisher introducing a number of attractive software bundles to help move systems. Once supply has sold through, Microsoft will essentially replace the 60GB Pro with the 120GB Elite model, cutting the price of its top-tier system to $299 in early September, the source said.
Of note, Ars Technica's source has successfully sleuthed out a number of retailer-related happenings in the past. Most applicably, the source precisely called Microsoft's across-the-board hardware price cuts for the Xbox 360 Elite, Pro, and Arcade in September 2008.
The official story: "This is completely based on rumors and rampant speculation."--A Sony Computer Entertainment representative. "Microsoft does not comment on rumors or speculation."--A Microsoft representative.
Bogus or not bogus?: Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 (and the Wii, for that matter) have seen weakness at retail recently, with Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst Jesse Divnich telling GameSpot earlier this month that all three consoles have "reached saturation at current price points." Therefore, it wouldn't be unheard of for either Microsoft or Sony to be reevaluating their SKU lineup and strategy. Add in the track record of Ars Technica's source, and this one is looking not bogus.
No confirmation on if it is a real PS3, or a knock off yet.
I can't see a knock off including a LAN port - I'm convinced. It looks like they managed to cram in an internal power supply too, I didn't expect that. It looks like shit though.
1. Identical to the leaked box http://playstationlifestyle.net/wp-c...ox-685x337.jpg
2. Identical to the leaked "unassembled" pieces
3. Box is the same design as the PSP Go box
4. Sony has never denied that it was fake. People thinking that a new SKU is coming would surely hurt sales, so if it really was fake, shouldn't they have said so by now?
5. Seems to have a lot of the same features on the back
6. If it was a Chinese knockoff, why was it first spotted in the Philippines?
7. The store seems to be selling legit PSPs, and the post about this video claimed that they were selling a DS3 with it
8. Actual PS logo on the front where the disc slot is
Could not be real:
1. There seems to be a discerning amout of ventilation on that. I pretty much didn't see any ventilation holes like the current PS3 has.
2. The power adapter on the back is shaped more like that of the PS2's and not the PS3's
3. This is in some underground market in the Philippines.
4. It is pretty ugly. Seems to have that "fake" look to it.
5. They never tried it. No one finds a PS3 Slim in a store and is like, "meh, I won't buy it or even try it out".
6. Although they are selling legit PSPs, that store looks shady as hell.
7. This was posted by the staff of a fairly UNPOPULAR Playstation website. If he was staff, he surely would have found out more, unless this is all simply to get hits.

I'm not sure what to say other than that...the "fake" looks pretty legit. If THIS is the only vid thats going to come out within the next month(s)...then I say its fake.
For the note...Philippines is probably one of the top countries in pirating/leaking products and such. So, I'm not surprised.
