New, Interactive Video Content for PLAYSTATION(R) Community
Gives Access to Game Developers, Betas, Demos and Other Downloadable
Content
FOSTER CITY, Calif., June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Computer Entertainment
America (SCEA) today announced that on June 5, 2008 it will introduce
Qore(TM): Presented by PLAYSTATION(R)Network, a highly interactive, monthly
original program that covers the world inside PlayStation(R), available
only on PLAYSTATION(R)Store for PLAYSTATION(R)3 (PS3(TM)). Qore features
exclusive multimedia news, developer interviews, in-depth game previews and
behind-the-scene looks at the hottest PLAYSTATION games. Subscribers will
also have special access to game demos, betas, add-ons and other
downloadable and game-related content. Qore is the first in a series of
planned original content for the PLAYSTATION community by PLAYSTATION
Network.
Qore episodes will be available the first Thursday of every month in
coordination with the weekly PLAYSTATION Store update. Customers can
purchase the first episode of Qore through the PLAYSTATION Store for an
introductory price of $2.99 (MSRP), or through an annual subscription for
$24.99 (MSRP). Annual subscribers will receive thirteen episodes of Qore.
In addition, for a limited-time-only, annual subscribers will also receive
the hit PLAYSTATION Network game, Calling All Cars(TM), for free*.
Delivered in high-definition, Qore is truly interactive, enabling
members to customize their experience with their SIXAXIS(TM) or
DUALSHOCK(R)3 wireless controllers. Gamers will "act as the director" of
the content and can access and control how they want to view content,
utilizing multiple windows, picture-in-picture and other features. Qore
also provides advertisers with a new class of interactive advertising
through rich media executions, video trailers, active ad pages and
contextual branding.
"Original content, community-related services and innovative products
are a major focus for the PLAYSTATION Network this year and we are pleased
to introduce Qore exclusively for our customers," said Peter Dille, senior
vice president of Marketing and PLAYSTATION Network, SCEA. "Qore is the
first step in providing original content dedicated to the PLAYSTATION
community and evolving the network into a place where our customers can
gather, share and discover new forms of entertainment."
Premiering on June 5, the first episode includes in-depth, exclusive
and never-before released content on upcoming PlayStation titles such as
SOCOM:US. Navy SEALs Confrontation(TM), Star Wars: The Force Unleashed(TM),
Secret Agent Clank(TM), Soul Calibur 4(TM) and Afro Samurai(TM) as well as
the latest Blu-ray Disc(TM) trailers, an exclusive SOCOM: Confrontation
theme with an invitation to the SOCOM: Confrontation beta, art galleries
and a few other surprises.
Qore is produced and published by SCEA and under an exclusive
development agreement with Future US, Inc., publisher of PlayStation: The
Official Magazine.
At least buy the first "episode" for the Socom beta, lol! I might consider subscribing if I really enjoy the first one. It is pretty cheap.
They should give us the first one for free. None of us can predict what it will be like or even if the content will be worth paying for. I might get it just for the S:C theme and invitation, but that's the only reason.
Once I have seen the content and maybe a line-up of future "issues", I may subscribe annually.
Note: Disregard this post if the UK isn't getting it anyway.
Do you know how much money Sony is going to make off of the first issue? I guarantee the majority of the people purchasing the first issue will be doing it mainly for the S:C beta invite, and then this service will be barely used. I know I could care less about any of the features that it mentioned and will not be subscribing to anything.
I will consider purchasing the first episode, but I think I would like more concrete details on the beta first. For example, how long is it going to last, when it will be running, and approximately how many people will be participating. Hopefully Sony doesn't release these details after the limited number of slots are filled up (if there even is a limited amount), but I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
All I know is that they better be giving us in game XMB in the next update, instead of "exclusive" content that isn't really needed.
EDIT: OME6A, here's a link to the official Playstation Blog announcing this:
Also remember, trailers, demos, and etc will still be on the regular PSN. This just provides a newer way to see more indepth info (More previews than trailers, behind the scenes, making of stuff I am guessing)
I think 3 bucks is a good deal. Especially if they let you know what is in it before hand so you know you will be interested in it or not. I think subscribing to it right off the bat would be risky because we do not know what future episodes will be like.
If they have a constant flow of betas than it would be popular.
