Definitely fanboyish. I feel all the systems did pretty good sales wise and that none of them failed. The only system that I could say that came close to "failing" is the 360, just because of the Red Ring that seems to happen to everyone but me.
I think the article has some facts incorrect, but the overall point has some merit. The PS3 didn't do as well as it could have this year. There was a lack of excellent games. I hope 2008 is a better year for Sony's system.
I bet you it failed for 2 reasons and 2 reasons only.... One huge factor that all my friends and almost every one said was the price... I bet if this system was priced at xboxs 360 start off price thier sales would have doubled. And 2 lack of games as of now. Sure there is a few good ones but no big hitters that would encourage a customer to spend 600 in the first few months of sales.
The week the ps3 sold the 40gb they sold over 100,000 systems... This is sony a huge corporation believe me they will find a way to get thier customers back.

That article is filled with misleading ******** information. It claims the Ken Kuturagi was "kicked out". He RETIRED. He took up the position as Honorary Chairman, and is still going to have an impact on the PS3.
To this date, the PS3 has sold about 7 million consoles......but wait a minute.....according to this article, many of the titles are not great, or do not sell that greatly? The Ps3 sold at a pretty decent rate throughout 2007, what do you expect to happen in 2008? Games such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Online, Killzone 2, Haze, DMC4, Disgaea 3, Gran Turismo Prologue, Gran Turismo 5, Resistance 2, Final Fantasy 13, LittleBigPlanet, Echochrome, Tekken 6, Afrika, White Knight Story, The Agency, along with a **** ton of awesome multi platform games....Do I really need to spell it out?
Ps3 is going to top the worldwide charts for a majority of 2008. The new price of $400 is the sweet spot for many consumers, and more and more people will be buying the system. And look at that list of games, how is that NOT appealing? PS3 will start to sell amazingly in Europe and Japan, but possibly slightly behind the 360 in America. The Worldwide appeal IS there for the PS3, but the sales were not the greatest. Many many people want one, and 2008 is the year that most of them are GOING to get one.
Many people are on the fence right now, deciding what to buy. The PS2 install base was 120 MILLION! While yes, some of those have already gotten a 360, Ps3 or a Wii, but there are still a **** ton of PS2 owners who do not have a next gen system yet. A MAJORITY of them will get either a PS3 only, or a PS3 with other systems. It is quite simple, if you want to play most of the sequels to your favorite PS2 games, you have to get a PS3. Now the price is down to a reasonable level, so people can afford it.
So, in the long run, PS3 did "good" in 07 considering what was out for the system. Also, may I mention that when the 360 was first released, it had NO competition and was released at a $300 and $400 price point, yet they still did not sell as many consoles as the PS3 in the same time frame.
The 360 has no worldwide appeal. It is selling well in America, decent in UK, pretty poorly in the rest of EU, and bad in Japan. PS3 is selling decently everywhere, but recently there has been a large burst in sales, especially in Japan. With the recent release of a popular JRPG, Lost Odyssey in Japan, MS expected a large boost in sold 360 consoles. It really had no impact, the game sold 40,000 on the first day, about 50% of the shipment, with barely anyone actually buying 360s for the game. No matter what, MS will never win over Japan, and Japan being a major force in the gaming industry, that could lead to trouble.
Also, now that Halo 3 is out of the way, MS does not have any major games to compete against Sony in 2008. Yes, you can argue that the Xbox 360 has an AMAZING line up, but that does not mean that they will sell well. Many of the games are either firsts in the series, brand new games, no one has heard of, or games that are generally not all that popular to begin with.
Closing note: Most PS2 owners are casual gamers, and casual gamers are NOT early adopters. Expect ridiculous PS3 sales in 08-09.
Hehe I qualify as one of those "casual gamers" that arent early adopters but I will be getting my ps3 soon. I dont have too much time for gaming as im aboutto start my final year at high school and am doing a tougher course than most people. Anyway, your raise a good point Zero...2008 i expect wont be as big a year for the 360. Their big gunners like Halo 3 are out while the PS3 has yet to release its system sellers like mgs4, gt5, killzone, socom confrontation etc. I also dont expect the 360 to do much in Japan (ps3 + wii country). We saw the 360 sales increase 5X on a certain week in Japan, overtaking the ps3 by a mere 200 units but that was just due to the corresponding release of ace combat 6 which was the 2nd most popular game after Super mario galaxy. It seems to me that the 360 may have reached its "peak" while the ps3 is gaining momentum. I still think the Wii will be the most successful console in 08
Didn't the PS3 break the record for largest file size ever created? Something like a pilabyte... and Stanford has been using the computer power of the PS3 to help in medical research in their facilities.

Not file size... processing power for a distributed computing network or something. They broke a petaflop, which is ****ing insane. It's that folding at home thing, and that petaflop includes PC's, but like 80% of the work is done by PS3's.
