Sounds like the HDMI port on the loaner TV is no good.
To switch your video settings on the PS3 without being able to see it:
Disconnect the HDMI cable
Hook up the red/white/yellow cables to PS3 and TV
With the PS3 on, press and hold the power button on the front, it will beep once, and then go beepbeepbeep, and then the AV settings on the PS3 should auto-detect the composite cable connection.

It is with the PS3 off...not on (Off as in on standby, red light)
When it is off, press and hold for a few seconds until it beeps. It resets the video settings.
Hey thanx a lot guys it worked. serious i would have never figured that out and it would have been a long 3 weeks with no ps3. do you think the HDMI port is broken ? or will it sync properly now if i attach it again? anyway just happy to be able to play.

Just hook it up via HDMI again and try the same technique.
so what all can a PS3 do besides play games? I am curious because i never had one and only know one person who does and he only plays games and watches BR movies on it.
So my bastard puppy decided to eat the piece of the bluetooth headset that wraps around you ear. I have the bluetooth headset that came with socom confrontation. Since I don't know what you would call that piece of it I was hoping you guys could tell me, and possibly where to get a new one.
I've just looked mid-post at the UK site and I can only find one Sony headset and the bids are already above retail price.
How old are the headsets? Maybe try and pursuade Sony to send you a replacement earpiece... thinking about it you may pay more in call charges than it would cost to buy a new one.
I like the Sony headset but it's not suited for prolonged usage. Maybe if the in-ear part was a cone shape it would help a litle. It's like trying to stick a candle in your ear.
Location: turn around, no, no, to the left, no idiot your other left, alright yea, keep turning and THERE STOP

Agreed, especially when both of the ear pad things are lost. feels like i've been stabbed in the ear after about 30 minutes to an hour of usage.
I was going to try and email Sony to see if they could just send me that part of it. For now though I'm just wearing a beanie over my head and pulling it down over my ears and that's holding it in place just fine.
