(In chronological order)
Atari 2600 - Not the very first Atari (I think) but I think the tech was just about perfected by this time. Bringing us classic upon classic.
Nintendo (Famicon) - A dramatic change from the Atari systems. Just like every system Nintendo would put out from now on, they weren't able to tell what they could really do with it until it's life was almost over.
Sega Genesis - It's easy to say SNES here because of the quality of games but I think Genesis deserves the spot because it brought something new to console gaming. Namely, solid competition. Before this time it was just solo dominations by one company then the other. Now things were getting interesting.
Sony Playstation - Not as solid as the Sega Saturn tech-wise but offered a wider variety of games and kept pricings low as possible.
Playstation 2 - With the inclusion of the DVD player this system blew the market wide open. Now you got more bang for your buck. Other systems in the past had attempted such innovations but to no avail.
Honorable mentions
N64 - It jumped us a bit further and gave us the rumble pack but really it was somewhat limited.
Wii - Inovation after inovation are constantly coming out but we'll see just where exactly Nintendo is going with all this.
Xbox360 / Playstation 3 - It will be interesting to see which of these titans come out on top. So far my vote's for Xbox360 but who knows?
