I prefer socom 2, but here are some of my arguments for both:
Pro-socom2:
-The gameplay is a bit more arcadish than S3, but this is the only game where I've actually considered that to be a good thing. I like the fast pace, quick diving, hectic battles...it's intense and fun. Also, it seperates skill levels, and a skilled player can be a big difference maker, which is the way I think it should be.
-The maps in S2 are brilliant. Perfectly sized and balanced, and very accessible, allowing you to move from one part of the map to another quickly. Every nook and cranny has signifigance. In S3, the large maps are cool, but they take too long to play. And when they are shrunken to small maps, they are not well-designed for fast, smooth, yet tactical gameplay.
-The guns, IMO, are much better in S2. You can really feel the differences in each gun, and they have kind of a "heavier" feel than the guns in S3 (the guns feel like toys to me in S3). And sometimes in S3, my gun jams up or something and I can't shoot.
-The games are much shorter on average.
Pro-socom3:
-It's definitely more of a team game, which I like. You have to work together to be successful.
-The attachments and options for each gun is pretty cool. Too bad they completely messed up the guns, IMO at least.
-Being able to throw grenades on the run is nice.
-This has more to do with it being the current game, but the people on S3 are cooler overall. Too much b*tching and big egos and annoying folks on S2.
-Code 9 really messed up S2 online. Now if anyone is doing good, everyone says he code 9's or uses tags or something like that, whatever that is. Fortunately, I've seen a steep decline in code 9 users lately. But there is just a lot more shady stuff in S2 than in S3.
