Make sure the network adapter is screwed in snug, but not too snug. The network adapter could be in too tight, or too loose.

Maybe your cord got too twisted or bent to work properly?

Another possibility, something that I have to deal with, is that I don't have a router. This means I can only use my computer or my PS2 online, but never at the same time. The biggest downside is whenever I switch my cord, I have to unplug my modem from my computer for up to an hour sometimes so I don't get the "connect failure" message on my PS2. In short, I have to wait a loong time when switching my cord between systems. I have yet to talk to Verizon about the cause of this problem but I plan on doing that very soon.

If you go to the site i gave you a link, it tells you how to reset your modem and stuff. Doesn't say nothing about waiting that long.

a bit off subject but it may help,

when I first hooked up, mind you I have a ton of cables all over my apartment, I grabed a cross over cable and spent 3 hours trying to get it up and running. In the end the cat5 worked in a second.

Moral of the story check the easy before the hard.

I get a "connect failure" message when my modem/router is offline. Check to see if the internet light on your modem is on. If it's not, call your ISP's customer support line, and they'll either tell you how to fix it, or they'll come by to do it.

And I used to get the network cable disconnected message alot, but if you just wait 5-10 seconds before pressing "login" it'll usually work on the first try.

heres what i do when it says that which is all the time. i try it 4 times. if it dont work i goto my cable modem and completely cut all power to it. unplug it right out of the outlet. i wait 1 minute. then i plug it back in and wait till it gets all the green dots. then i try again and then it usually works the first or second try.
