If the M16 is fully auto it would be the next noob weapon, all I'd have to do is see an enemy, hold on to the R1 button, and the gun will probaly never go up, since it's so accurate, and lots of people will complain.

I think the main reason is because it would be just to much of a great gun. Its so powerful and accurate right now that 3 burst is all they need.

This is what I am pretty sure the difference between each one is (I may leave out minor differences as these are american guns and I'm a brit)
M16- full auto mode, but this had quite a lot of recoil, as do most full auto guns, but less than the M14, but very unreliable weapon from vietnam era
M16A1- generally more reliable as during it's time in service it was constantly modified M16, but only initial difference was the forward assist
M16A2- removal of full auto as men tended to just spray away instead of aimed single shots like they were trained, so came the three round burst (which also makes ammo last longer), it also introduced the heavier barrel with faster 1:7 rifling, a different type rear sights (adjustable for both range and windage), round handguards instead of triangular ones
M16A3- back to full auto, no more burst, and with the picatinny rail for various sighting systems
M16A4- M16A3 with burst, no auto
So basically, there should be the A4 in SOCOM, but it is only a little different to the A2
The M16A1 should not be introduced

Wonderful post Jimdalf.
It would have to be tuned down if it were full auto. Like others said, just iomagine if there was a full auto 16 in the game, how unfair it would be. Wait, it is unfair.
Precision= Skill
Sure Shot = Strafe

With all the modifications you'll be able to do to your weapon in socom 3, I bet we;ll see more mods to the M16.

The reason the M16 is so accurate is because of burst, if the M14 had a mode of burst, it would be even better. If the M16 was auto it would be like an M14, just not as powerful and a larger clip. Remember, the reason it was made burst was because it had really bad recoil.

^Not really, if it were full auto it would loose most of it's accuracy. It would be like an m4a1.
