Are you Canadian? It's a pretty big name in America. But I don't think I ever had to login either. I believe I just did the automatic selection thing, once I got my router I had to make a new Newtwork Configuration and had to login, but not without a router.

wait dude, so if i take those steps, than i dont have to use a router in order to play socom AND go on the internet on the computer???? and yea i have SBC too...

No you do have to use the router.
It is a tutorial for how to get on SOCOM or PS2 Online if you donot have a router because the router bypasses the Username and Password for your ISP

you need DSL because most games for PS2 are Brodband Only plus to play PS2 on dial up it is going to cost alot because you pay by the minitue.Ggetting broadband for if your going to play PS2 online is cheaper than dial up because broadband is a set monthly charge, Dial Up Set Pay-By-The-Minute Charge

DAMNit didn't work for me,it says NETWORK CABLE DISCONNECTED,and yes i have tried many times as u guys say but it doesn't work.
