Go to a hip record story (I'm not taling HMV or Tower Records) and ask if they resurface discs, which is a process whereby the bottom side of the disc is heated, buffed and cooled (or something along the lines of this) and, voila, comes out good as new!
I've had it done for many of my CDs (Sonic Temple in Toronto, ON does it, so go on their website, send them an email and ask what the process is called and if they know of anywhere in your area where it can be done). Not only is it fairly inexpensive(about $3.00 a disc), it works pretty well, too. Of course, you can't resurface the labelled side of the disc (which, coincidentally, is where the data is actually stored closer to), so take care to protect the top side, as well.
