Thought I would share this INFO straight from SONY:

This is a follow-up email to your last correspondence with us. Your original question is attached
at the bottom of this email for your reference.

Thank you for taking the time to share your questions and concerns. Please rest assured that we will
convey your feedback to the appropriate managers at Sony Computer Entertainment America's (SCEA).
Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) is fully dedicated to supporting the The Internal Hard
Disk Drive (40GB) (for PlayStation(R)2) (HDD).

The HDD began shipping on March 23, 2004 for a MSRP of $99 (USD) and $139 (CND). Currently, the HDD
supports the software that it is packaged with (i.e. Final Fantasy XI and Tetra Master), as well as
any other PlayStation(R)2 format software titles that have HDD functionality. To determine if a
particular title supports the HDD, please check the feature notices on the back of the title's case.

Both the media player and games manager require and take advantage of the Broadband Navigator which
will be available at a later time. Additionally, there will be several first party titles that will
take advantage of the HDD with downloadable content, such as SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs and Syphon
Filter: The Omega Strain. At this time, we do not have any official information on when this or
other content may be available.

If you have further questions regarding this message, please refer to your email case
number:2268749.

Stacey
Multimedia Supervisor

Other product features or benefits include 40GB of storage, faster loading times, saving CDs to
create a personal jukebox, and the ability to download content ? levels, missions, characters, and
much more.SCEA ? Gamers Day 2003 Announcements
In addition to the gaming content, the internal Hard Disk Drive will also include a customized media
player specifically designed for PlayStation 2. The media player offers a myriad of entertainment
options to the consumer including playing MP3s, storing CDs, further expanding the functionalities
of the top-selling console. The media player will also incorporate a photo manager allowing users to
store, display and edit digital photos, as well as a games manager to organize and browse games
stored on the drive. "

As you know its a press release from SONY, where is all that ??????????

hmm
I'm a little skeptical on your information. I've heard a lot of that from websites, but Sony doesn't typically respond to individual emails or customer comments.

Skeptical about what? The way I read that email it sounds like "ya ya, we know what we said and it will do all those things. We do not have a scheduled release date for any of that stuff yet."

Basically Final Fantasy is out right now. Everything else will be release later. That seems on track with everything I've read and seen advertised.

Let's be honest. The only real reason anybody bought the f-ing HDD is to play the new SOCOM II maps. I love FF, but when I heard about the online "adventure" I was turned off. The whole marketing ploy was a waste of our time. They should have bundled that f-ing thing with SOCOM II and made Zipper get off their asses and put out the new maps. Yes, I am sure Sony sold tons of these HDD's, but they could have sold way more and not pissed everyone off if they would just have planned ahead. For this simple fact Zipper and Sony can kiss my ***. By the way, I love SOCOM II, keep up the good work.
