Thought I would share this INFO straight from SONY:
This is a follow-up email to your last correspondence with us. Your original question is attached
at the bottom of this email for your reference.
Thank you for taking the time to share your questions and concerns. Please rest assured that we will
convey your feedback to the appropriate managers at Sony Computer Entertainment America's (SCEA).
Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) is fully dedicated to supporting the The Internal Hard
Disk Drive (40GB) (for PlayStation(R)2) (HDD).
The HDD began shipping on March 23, 2004 for a MSRP of $99 (USD) and $139 (CND). Currently, the HDD
supports the software that it is packaged with (i.e. Final Fantasy XI and Tetra Master), as well as
any other PlayStation(R)2 format software titles that have HDD functionality. To determine if a
particular title supports the HDD, please check the feature notices on the back of the title's case.
Both the media player and games manager require and take advantage of the Broadband Navigator which
will be available at a later time. Additionally, there will be several first party titles that will
take advantage of the HDD with downloadable content, such as SOCOM II: U.S. Navy SEALs and Syphon
Filter: The Omega Strain. At this time, we do not have any official information on when this or
other content may be available.

In addition to the gaming content, the internal Hard Disk Drive will also include a customized media

options to the consumer including playing MP3s, storing CDs, further expanding the functionalities
