I havent really read too much about downloadable **** in socom2 but socom 2 isnt the only onlien game ppl. When games similar to Diablo 2 come out for PS2 now ther probably will be an *** load of downloads. Also maybe somehow people can make there own Maps like in CS but Socom is pretty secure so i doubt that. Alot of games will have HDD support. just not many have it now.

Does anyone have any technical specs on the drive? From the pictures it looks like a standard IDE drive. I've got a PS2 HDD (sealed) I'm debating about keeping it. If I open it up I'm planning on mirroring the drive to my PC and seeing what I can pull out of the FF files, assuming it's an IDE drive. I guess I'll have a look at the network adaptor when I get home and see what the connector is.

One thing I *herd* (This is gossip... NOT fact) is that with the drive over in Japan it has opened up so much more cheating because you can actually modify the game files directly now.

I'm not interested in cheating, but I would like to find anything that's hidden away and how it works.

Sorry about double posting, and I know this has been asked a lot, but never answered. Where is the faster load times!!!!! I definatly dont notice a difference. Plus whats up with still having to use your memory card. All this confusing crap is really pissing me off. My computer sucks, my dsl only works half the time. My PS2 sucks, (I had to buy 3 of them before one would work) I get kicked off Socom more times then not. It all just really sucks.
PS. Where the **** is the new Socom maps.

Ok man this is how the HDD and memory cards work. You can use the HDD as a archives , where you take your memory cards save the data on the HDD. Then u can erase your memory cards. So no more having to buy more memory cards.
Then what u do is lets say u want to play Grand Theft Auto ,then u would go to your HDD transfer thoose files to your memory card and start your game. Reason for this is older games are not wrote to look for the HDD. They search for memory cards.( The newer games that are HDD compatible will probaly be written to look for the HDD as well as the memory cards.-*that statement is my option. I have no source for that.* LOL Sony may not do that b/c they make a lot of money on memory cards.)

Now for the faster load time i'm really not sure but will find out.

Holla I'm Out

The only way you will see faster load times with the HDD is if it is loading information from the hard drive instead of the CD.

Because you do not copy the Socom2 CD to the HDD you should not see much (if any) load time change.

For examply, with a hacked XBox you can copy your game entirely to the hard drive, and then run it from the HD without even using the CD and the load times are definatly much faster. But Socom (and all other games except FF) still run off the CD, and will then run at CD speeds.

Think of it this way for now... The HDD will make ABSOLUTLY NO DIFFERENCE to any game except Final Fantasy for now. There is no new content (maps, players, etc.), no new features. Sony is not pushing the HDD right now, there pushing the Final Fantasy game. The HDD will be pushed later when you can actually use it with other games.

P.S. I popped that sucker HDD in my PC yesterday, and I can't get anything of it. I'll post info on it later.

Too bad but...

Too bad the HDD has been released to promote FFXI as opposed to a piece of hardware.

Though it took a lonf time, it was cool to have FFXI automatically updated. I could only imagine the potential of the HDD and SOCOM II.

I think perhaps a lot of the success of the HDD will be determined by how many people purchase it since I am sure game developers are probably watching to see how many people pick this item up.

If few sell, I can't see people spending a lot of time developing games that will only work with the HDD.
