I work in a store that sells the PS2 HDD. We got it in a shipment this morning and i bought it as soon as we opened the box up. i waited for 6 long hours to get home and put that thing in and see what new maps we were going to get to play....right now i'm pretty pissed off that i blew 100 dollars and i'm still playing the same maps (not that they're bad..i just want to see what else is new). I have the HDD set to enable and everything is working fine. I read somewhere that someone said there is 2 universes. i assume that when you click on the second universe, it will say "there are new maps ready for download...press X to continue"..but no, there aren't 2 universes. there is not a thing new.
Does Socom II have an OFFICIAL web site? If so, then they might be able to tell us when new maps/guns will be coming out...i don't want to be waitin around forever.
lol if you bought the HDD for Socom2 the you wasted your money. first its going to be a while before you use it for Socom2 but have no fear Zipper ans Sony have released statements that they are working on content for the game but no release date (my guess is this fall) and second the first stuff they release will be for the offline game. new missions that unlock new weapons and new skins.
But look at it this way new games that are coming out this fall will HDD compatiable like Syphon Filter: The Omega Strain. So if youo bought the HDD just be patient it will be worth the money.

Is this more speculation and rumors, or do you know this for a fact.
The way I see it there are a lot of Socom II players that are waiting for the new content before they buy a HDD. So that is a lot of people that won't be buying the HDD now. Final Fantasy online is a joke, $12.95 a month for that? That can't be good for Sony.
Final Fantasy is gonna be a hit...I know a few poeple who have played them and that is their life, final fantasay, they are gonna make a ton of money becasue they will pay.....on a sid note, i think it has been all the socom 2 players who hyped up the HDD for socom 2....you should be blaming yourselves.
I would like to start off by stating that there has never been a final fantasy game that wasn't hom.ose.xual, and this one isn't any differant... i wish that the first FINAL fantasy was truly the last, because these games are horrible... you just stand there while you pick moves off of a list (g.ay)... and yes i know that this one is differant, but there are still all the g.ay character personalities and g.ay walking little bunnies and other stupid, stupid things all over the place
But as far as the hdd updates for socom, your not getting them until the fall... ign has a section entitled "most anticipated games of 2004" and in it, they state that socom 2 will have a large expansion for the hdd, just not until the fall

This is interesting. I was talking to someone the other day that was going on and on about how great the 'new maps' were. He was telling me all these details about each map. It was really entertaining to hear. And now it occurs to me that this guy had made everything up. Apparently, he had said nothing of the truth, and had blatantly lied. It was still quite entertaining though. He was talking about a huge lake like Blood Lake, just bigger and better. And a map based in some sort of office building. :D
Ok, I too have hooked up my new hdd and have found no new content. Though it may be just luck however, i have experienced zero lag since i got it, and you guys know the game has been lagging recently. Any way i cant wait to find out what i get for my $100. Cuz a final fantasy game that i will never take out of the packaging just doesn't cut it.

Its out for Final fantasy because its for people who want to play final fantasy, They are gonna release it seperately you know. If you don't like RPG games thats your problem...I don't think the Final fantasy IX package was meant for people to buy if they wanted new SOCOM content. Only for Final fantasy content i believe..
About that new HDD, will other games work for it??
Like the new GTA: San Andreas (10/18/2004) and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (2004).
I'm kinda glad that I didn't rush too buy the new HDD yet, I figured to wait til' the prices are cheaper, and when more games will support the HDD, not just Socom II and Final Fantasy XI. :)
