Sounds like your behind a router/firewall, you most likely need to open up ports as well.

Manish,

I have tried everything to get my mic/headset to work. I made new rules for my dlink router to allow port 6869 for both TCP and UDP. I even got some advice that I could go into my DMZ and open all ports for my PS2s IP address. Nothing has worked. Could you reiterate the subnet mask stuff again? How can the third number in my routers address be anything but 0 if that is the default? The game is great, but the frustration of not being able to have coop with my team is about to its limit. PLEASE HELP!

response to maniacal and karmagic
maniacal - I wasn't the one stating that you could know your ps2 ip address by looking in the configuration screens of the ps2, I think that was Lucky 7, maybe he could tell you - I have never looked for it, because I can find the address in the router/firewall screens. You should be able to configure this though without dealing with the ps2 configuration screens, by following my directions from prior.

karmagic - if you have to you can leave the ip address 192.168.0.1 for a 192.168.0.x network. make the subnet mask 255.255.255.0, just in case you have multiple devices that you may want. I was only getting into changing the IP address of the firewall/router if you needed to do more advanced things. There is a screen on dlink where you can configure the IP address of the device. Basically, the default CAN be changed. Make sure that you set the IP portion for DHCP/ dynamic IP. The best way to configure the d link router is to delete all the DMZ stuff and get rid of the other access ports firewall configuration and just go with configuring the virtual server portion. Open up port 6869 tcp/udp from the PS2 ip address (which you can find in the status screens, I believe, search around, the ip address is around there somewhere, can't remember off hand) and when it says destination address place an * there. You can also place an * for the source address as well. This means any thing on my LAN behind my firewall (*) can access anything on the internet using port 6869 - remember virtual server is the easiest way other than doing the DMZ thing. If this doesn't work out, you may need to upgrade the firmware and try the configuration again.

ICS Problems
OK, now that the router thing has been beaten to death in just about every thread on this forum. It's time to stop posting about it.. if they don't understand it they never will.

On another note, I am running win2k with ICS turned on and I can't seem to get the Mic working. I have not found any information about this in any of the threads.

If someone else had the same problem and knows the answer to it I would appreciate the fix for it.

I tried using the port 6869 in the ICS but there are 2 different areas to open up ports. and I have used each one and both at the same time with no success.

If someone knows the answer please post

Thanks

PS2 IP's
Use the setup disk for the netword adapter for the PS2 and hard set your IP address

use somehting like 192.168.0.100 (typical for most routers)

for the gateway use 192.168.0.1 (typical for most routers)

for the DNS use 192.168.0.1 (typical for most routers)
and leave the 2nd DNS blank

and now you know the ip for your PS2
192.168.0.100

(note: most routers will go in sequential order with the IP's 1..2..3..4..5.. and so on and so forth.. so if you have 100 computers (highly doubtful) set the number higher (max of 254))

FYI, if you have a NETWORK EVERYWHERE router... go buy a new one. it will not work with that cheap-*** router. i know because i have one. i upgraded the firmware, i put it in DMZ, i even did the ports. i bought a REAL linksys BEFW11S4 and it works perfect with the first try. network everywhere goes in the trash.

OK, for people with d-link routers. My headset would not work with the configuration changes. I had to upgrade my firmware to get from version 2.18 to 3.20. Sony tech support told me that the ports to open are UDP ports 6000-6999. After the upgrade and config changes the headset works great!

HOLD ON THERE BEFORE YOU THROW OUT THE "Linksys Network Everywhere" router! i got mine to work, finally...

this is what you need to do,

turn on your ps2 WITH socom II in and go to "Online" once there, go to "Config Network Settings" *or whatever, the last one, on the bottom of the screen* aight, now, go through all your crapxors, until you get to the DHCP part, THIS IS WHAT WILL MAKE IT WORK!, now, instead of having "Auto" on the decect DHCP server ip, click manual, and put it in, the first IP numbers will be 192.168.1.1, then the Subnet, *er whatever* will be 255.255.255.0, and then click ok, and such, and then on the next option, name the Host, whatever you like, ex. ps2, SOCOM, anything, and then finish your settings as usual, it should work *it did for me atleast*

now, the way to test it is, on your computer *thatd be this thing that your looking at*, go into the routers settings, type in 192.168.1.1 in your URL, and go to DHCP, once there, click on, SHOW DHCP CLIENTS *er something to that effect* and your computer should be there and whatever you named your host on Socom, any questions? im all ears, now mic thanx to this stupid thing working!]

w00t! time to go killz some pplz.....
