You cant just become SF anytime you want, first you need to wait for SF to come around to units and see whod they like to interview. You can get a interview easily but that means absolutely jack even if you pass it. I hope you like playing with IEDs.

They've got guys in the ARMY who's sole job is to get people to tryout for SF. Not all of them pass, but some pass, and become SF. When I get on station, I have to go to one of these recruiters (find them first), and then have them start a packet on me, for the next time they have the qualifications.
However, I'm not in the shape I need to be to even hope to compete in the qual's so I'm not going to bother with it for at least another year.
Playing w/ IED's?
Oh, I'm not limited to only playing with those bad boys, I get to play w/ C-4, Makeshift Bombs, and so forth. All in all, a very explosive job, which I most definately look forward to.
*EDIT*
And by the by, refrain from IMing me with ******** statements, ok, pumpkin? Thanks.

Only in America. Anywhere else in the world special forces are extremely secretive, but in the US everyone knows who is in what. Over here, SAS wives remember their wedding night for what they learned about their new husband rather than the usual stuff. That is when they are told and very very few others ever know.
Some guys cope perfectly well with SF life, for example your uncle, but those chaps are made of strong stuff. You probably are too but there is always a chance of things working out poorly... and with this particular lifestyle things going poorly is exceptionally bad.
By changing the nessecery I mean the haircuts, the false respect (you get that by saluting shiteaters all day long) and things like that. But don't let them alter who you actually are. It will make sense when you look around at your fellow recruits a few weeks into your training. Some will change dramatically for the worse.
Enjoy digging your holes and defusing unexploded munitions Soggy.

Yeah, I meant why's that gotta be a bad thing? We barely use foxholes anymore, it's all Close Quarters, and the Arty Shells are now called I.E.D's, and such. I think it'll actually be a bit fun to work with explosives, and heavy machinery.
Then after a year or two, I'll just pick another job, lol.

I meant digging anti-tank trenches and hauling out boring old unexploded bombs.
Unexploded bombs, and weapons that need decommisioning in general, are quite dangerous. COmmon sense really, but they are more dangerous than most of the pansy stuff engineers get up to. There was a chap on the Falklands in '96, chanced upon an old argie arms dump from the war in '82. Captured British weapons, including a few antiaircraft missile launchers called "Blowpipe". It was actually booby trapped, whole thing went boom... nobody was killed but one poor fellow had a whole lot of missile launcher implanted in his chest and abdomen... the joke now is that he always has some blow and a pipe on him.
Don't undervalue combat engineers and your ccareer as one though Soggy. They are the most useful part of the army. Everyone else just kills people, and while the engineers aid us in that a lot, they are the ones that rebuild bridges and roads and everything needed for survival for people all over the world when its needed. It was Indian engineers that were in Pakistan last year, and Engineers are the guys that would have helped after Katrina.

Thanks guys, it's good to know that I got a few people on here who care, lol.
I'm scared shitless, man... I improved (not much) on my mile time, but for the past week, I haven't trained AT ALL, because I was sick, and I still have a cough. I can't breathe properly, so I didn't run, but I just hope that when I get there, that I'm at least 90%, because if not, I doubt I'll pass the running portion of the PT test....
*pray*
I'm also scared of what's going to happen. I have no clue what to expect other than yelling, and...... that's it. I don't know how I'll take it, lol. I spent the whole of today getting hygenic things, like underwear, socks, running shoes, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, so forth, so on... And later today, I'm going to the recruiter's office to check off everything I need, and get whatever I didn't.
I think after Boot Camp, it'll be fun....
But during Boot Camp, I will want to go home, lmfao.
