An Honest Question
Can anyone explain to me why camping is not considered a viable tactic when playing online? It seems to me that it finds itself in the ranks of the reviled, when in reality, games are won by using this tactic. I am not talking about hiding to avoid a loss, or anything of that nature. I mean actual, tactical camping, with a purpose in mind besides just hanging out with the foliage. I am extremely curious as to people's thoughts on this.

Most don't like camping online because it takes away from the action. Most, not all, but most video games are designed to keep you entertained.
It can get you the win, no doubt about it, but when it comes down to it. You figure, five minute rounds. You get killed, and both teams camp. Or just one guy is left on the other team, but the rest of your's cannot find them. Who wants to sit and wait for four minutes? It's just a patience issue.

+1
Also people dont like camping because it takes a team effort to over come a camping team. Most people online are looking for instant gratification, and are not willing to put forth the time to take a logical approach.

Any team, when they REALLY try, can camp indefinitely and win every single game when the enemy does anything besides an equal amount of camping. This completely kills a room, and ultimately becomes a game of which team decides there are petter things to do than burn an image of you prone into your TV first.
For example, in a GB one time, we played a ~19 round game of Citadel. Fun, if you're Terri Schiavo.

I have learned to except most forms of camping. I just can't players who will sit in the same spot for rounds at a time and still don't move when it's a 4vs1. Camping like that just prolongs the game too much. I really don't want to play one map for a half hour. I would like to play a verity of maps considering there's about 20 of them in the game.

Most people on this game consider camping to be what you just said..hiding in a bush, or hiding behind a wall, or camping in some room forever.
THAT is the kind of camping that makes me go nuts. When that happens, it just disheartens me so much, because the game can be so fun if people actually ran around instead of just hiding somewhere. The game has been out(atleast Socom 3 has) for a year and a half! and people still have to hide/use cheap tactics to win a round or game.
If used tactically though, it's not as bad. Like if you see a group of enemies up ahead(coming towards you), you aren't going to rush them and *maybe* get a kill out of it. You want to stay back, camp the area you're in, and try to get as many of them as possible and/or stay alive. Of course this has gotten me angered a couple times, but it's the kind where you want to go back the next round and kill him before he kills you.
Spoolboy - I know for myself it's not an instant gratification issue. I like seeing and having good team work. I think it's one of the things that makes this game(as well as others) interesting. I like to see teams strive in their teamwork to win, especially if I have good teamwork with a bunch of people in public rooms, and with my clan in clan wars. I'd much rather have myself and a teammate or two help me take down one guy, opposed to having me trying to kill him by myself and take an even greater chance of dieing. Even in other games, like Halo 2, teamwork is excellence. When myself and teammates come together and have good chemistry, and back eachother up, it's good. Whether it's him killing someone about to assassinate you, or helping you by teamshooting, it's teamwork. I just wish more people would take the chip off their shoulder and actually be a better teammate instead of trying to be a 1 man team.

I have ALWAYS said there is a time and a place for camping. Like people have said, going to the same spot for 11 rounds for 3-4 minutes each round and NOT MOVING is NOT the time to camp. Thats 33-44 minutes of your LIFE wasted sitting instead of actually having fun. I guess some people that are drunk or high can have fun in one spot, but some of us would rather kill people (after all, it is a SHOOTER...).
So when is the right time to camp? Well, in one of our random war videos that Razzor7 made you can see me pull off a 3v1. I was being sneaky in it, I killed one guy near the trains in Anchorage, and then knowing that the other 2 would come near the area I stayed low in the trench and went behind the boxes. There I proceeded to take them both out. Also, I dont know how many of you had played S2 as much as me or some other [S3] members, but say its a XR game, its tied 5-5 in a clan war and the other team has rushed with the bomb every round. I know for a fact that I would be planting some mines and staying close to the base, whereas two rounds earlier I was rushing the Fish Marker/Red Room.
There are perfect times where a little camping/sneaky tactics are justified, but NOT 98% of the players on S3/CA just camp because they're scared to be shot at and risk being exposed for being absolutely horrible.

the truth is peps hate camping becouse they want action but heres the catch if u die early in the round u have to wait until the round is over but if u camp ur at least still playing .its the people that hate camping that killed this game as in no extractions' and no escourt games i mean camping in s3 and cs are now the same thing as a iw in s2
listen up all u camper haters if u dont run out in the open and get ur dumb selfes shot u wont be sitting in the room for 2 or 3 minutes CRYING about the guy thats still playing and CAMPING
ive saw to many games lost becouse some 1 got bored and went all rambo
if u have numbers camp
if its 2 on 1 and ur on the 2 side camp
if its killing feilds and its shotguns and ur a seal camp
it all comes down to a bunch of people who cant wait thier turn

It all comes down to people that don't know wtf they're doing, so they don't go out and "rambo" because those of us that know what skill is don't have to prone for 3-4 minutes to get 2 kills.
If you outnumber the other team, go get the ****ing guy. DOn't hide like a ****ing sissy and think you're good.
If its shotguns in KF and you're a seal, get some ****ing balls and go have fun. All you do when you hide in your spawn is show how shrunken your sack has become.
I've seen so many games won because people in S3 know what it takes to win, not hiding, shear skill. We have so much individual skill in the clan one of us could probably easily take 3 people from any one clan in a 3v1.
